Benefits to Activities
I think there are a few benefits to hosting an activity rather than a contest. The major one is the time commitment. Sure, an auction or a group can be just as time-consuming as a contest. It can require a lot of updating, responding, and communication with participants, just like a contest, but there are a variety of activities that don't require a lot of time.
Some of us have busy "off-line" lives or just don't have a large amount of time to put into being here, and that doesn't mean we can't participate and be beneficial WDC members!
Here are a few ways to stay active without using up copious amounts of your very valuable free time:
In & Outs. Whether it's participating in one or hosting one, they don't take up quite as much time as other types of activities/contests. Try some of these for some quick time-fillers
Quizzes. Quizzes can take some time to create, but they're very fun once finished! And they're quite fun to take!
Polls. Another quickie!
Of course, there are more than those, but that's just a few ideas! What I love about activities is the diversity and potential they provide. They can be personal or funny or whatever you want to them to be, and I'm sure sometimes they take on a life of their own! They can be related to writing or they can be a break from writing.
As always, keep on writing!

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (September 27, 2017)" ), discussed the solar eclipse.
Wonderful article, Spidey! I was reinforced after reading your article on winter and how to cope with it during dreary times. I am so glad I read this! Wonderful reminder on how to handle winter and how to plan for the good and bad times.
Morningstar--also known as Toni ~ shepherd46
Thanks for the feedback! Glad you could find something helpful in my newsletter!
You scared me with your NL title! Winter has been here and went away - thankfully - until next year. Nevertheless, this past month has been a hot one. Today finally cooled off here in Misery (Missouri) and it smells like fall.
The winter blues is real and trying to stay busy is one of the most effective ways to get through it. OctoPrep and Nano should be helpful in that department, but we really need something for December. ~ Creeper Of The Realm
Those sound like some good plans to make it through the next few months!
And feedback from a previous newsletter, "Contests & Activities Newsletter (August 2, 2017)" :
Spidey, thanks for the insightful newsletter. The poached egg/writing connection was quite clever and so true. Cooking and writing often have a lot in common- unexpected results. It takes a keen, creative eye to look at a subject from an unusual perspective! ~ Dawsongirl
Thanks so much!
