Calendars and clocks exist to measure time, but that signifies little because we all know that an hour can seem as eternity or pass in a flash, according to how we spend it.

Depending on where you live, this time of year is perfect for reflection, reading, writing, running some great contests as well as taking part in some, and participating in activities. In other words, get your creative juices flowing and get things done!
That doesn't mean that you'll manage to do all that you want. Life can be your biggest enemy when it comes to your leisure time. Writing requires concentration. Even if many will tell you that the best thing to do is to keep at it on a regular basis, it can be hard to set aside time and focus, right from the start, on what you'd want written.
Keeping a calendar and making sure you enter the particular contests you enjoy, can be set aside. Depending on when they're running - monthly, bimonthly, every quarter, etc. - even when you have an entire month to participate in them, the time slips by unknowingly, or the inspiration doesn't arrive on time. Whatever it is, you miss the deadline.
Reading can be and is very relaxing. When you come home and all the daily chores are done, if you don't feel like writing, reading is definitely something you should keep up with. Read as much as you can, and all sorts of genres if possible. Even if the inspiration for writing doesn't come right away, the little snippets of ideas will linger somewhere in the back of your mind, which you'll get while reading, and they'll present themselves once you feel the need to write because you feel as if you'd stop breathing if you didn't.
When you feel that you don't have the time or the energy to do either or, but need a distraction, we are here. This site, your home, our home, is always here. Waiting. Your friends and fellow writers are only an email or an IM away. The newsfeed waits for you to share small tidbits with others. Any type of interaction on the site is helpful and it goes both ways. Staying in touch is important. It will remind you that writing is a part of you, but that you're a part of something else which matters as well. Community.
We work with each other to help one another. All of us need a breather, a small retreat from the everyday, even from writing. Just remember that, down the line, we are here. Our home where we share our passion for writing, arts, and the like, is here waiting for you.
As much as we all want to help and be here, we also understand the need to step back, evaluate, reevaluate. Yet we all come back. We all create our new contests, share our writing, participate in activities, because, let's face it. This site is about more than just words. It's home.
'Til next time!
