About This Newsletter

The contests and activities on this site are constantly changing! Almost every day there is something new and exciting to view and participate in. The ideas are endless. Some succeed, some manage to get along, while others, unfortunately, are left behind and forgotten. My goal as your Contest & Activity newsletter editor is to provide each of you with the tools it takes to create a great success.

Starting a Contest

Happy New Year to all members of Writing.Com! I know I'm a few days late in wishing you such, but it's not my fault January 1st was on a Sunday and not a Wednesday when these newsletters come out. People often associate the New Year with the chance to start fresh, to start something new, to do something over and do it right. New Year's resolutions run rampant.

At this very moment, I am looking forward to going shopping for the "perfect outfit" to attend a large dance hosted by the young adults of my church. It's a big activity that has been orchestrated by three-times as many people as usual, and three-times the budget. But it didn't start like that. It started with an idea, and with carefully asked questions, it became a big New Years party. This isn't much different than most contests and activities here on Writing.Com. With a few well-placed questions, the simplest idea can be a great contest. Questions such as:

*Bullet*What is the basic idea and what makes it unique?
*Bullet*How much can I invest in it (time, GPs, effort, etc.)?
*Bullet*When, where, and how? (key in planning real-life activities and in writing the rules for your contest)
*Bullet*Does it have public appeal, or is it at least capable of broad interest?
*Bullet*Are the timeframe, rules, etc. realistic?
*Bullet*How can I best publicize it?

I encourage each of you to try hosting or co-hosting or simply helping with a contest, auction, raffle or any other activity this year. Happy New Year, once again!
