Letter from the editor

Age is just a number. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm not mentioning it just because I got to be another year older, but because age doesn't make us who we are at heart. It changes our perspective of how we look at things, it changes our perspective, but it's a subtle change, noticeable only once a few years pass by. It doesn't change who we are!

What about our characters? Does their age matter?

When you pick up a book to read, do you concern yourself with the age of the characters? Whether or not they're male or female? Does it affect your reading in any way?

In most instances, the actual number of years the characters have had under their belt doesn't concern anyone. It's the image, their description that sets the tone for them and everything else is rather irrelevant. As long as it's the genre you prefer reading, your mind will gloss over the details you're not in love with and use your own imagination to fill in the particular gaps.

When it comes to your own characters, it's likely the same. Or is it?

Your character can be ten years old in one story and seventy in the next. What matters to you is to get that story out and finish it, no matter what. Same goes for the genre. You'll go in the direction that suits you best. Don't concern yourself with what others might think or disagree with you on. When a story needs to be told you sit and write or type.

But as a reader, does age of the characters have any affect on you whatsoever? I know it does on me!

'til next time!
~ Gaby *Witchhat*
