Jump Scares

With Halloween around the corner, it's time to plan your pranks.

How to jump scare the trick or treaters?

As somebody who doesn't watch horror movies and generally doesn't enjoy being startled, I think that Halloween is a bit of a different animal. At least the suburban kid-friendly Halloween I take part in every year.

Here are some ways people scared me in the past that turned out to be funny.

*Devil* Two kids dressed up as Chainsaw Massacre hid behind the bush in front of their house. Each time a group of trick or treaters came by, they jumped out covered in blood and threatening with the saw.

*Jackolantern* A neighbor put a bowl of candy on a small table outside of his house and trained a camera on it. Whenever somebody walked up to the bowl, he would tell the person to "take only one piece," through a speaker under the bowl from the safety of his arm chair.

*House* The family in one house puts up a huge Halloween display for the whole month of October. On Halloween night, they set up a maze of black tarps. In order to receive any candy, one must make it through the maze and survive getting frightened by the family.

*Monster1* Always popular: sensor triggered animatronics that go off when you walk past them.

She does take a great photo! I bet you have loads of fun jokes to tell each other.

At times, we laughed, but then stifled the sound. Comedic relief in fiction drama mirrors moments in real life drama.
Nice work, making this NL comprehensive without dragging it out.

Thank you for your nice comment about my newsletter.

Yes, I thought that was hilarious too. Kids have such amazing ways to deal with adversity as long as they are supported by the adults in their lives. I think SM jr. did a splendid job with his chart.
