Letter from the editor

Unless I live to be more than 120, I must come to terms that I'm in the later years of my life.

The years teach much which the days never knew. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

That said, I'm not feeling sorry for myself. On the contrary, I believe I see things with more clarity than I did when I was younger.

Today I have a job that I absolutely love. I build things. I own a custom woodworking shop that allows me to express my creativity with my hands, something I've been able to do since I got out of the Army in 1992. So many of my friends lament the jobs they have. Even my wife longed for retirement, which she achieved in January.

Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. ~Alfred Lord Tennyson

There's not a doubt in my mind that God gave me the desire for the work I now do. I'd never had any formal training for woodworking in school. I never inherited any such skills from my folks. Dad measured three times, cut once ... and the piece was still short. He used to say he had the wisdom to know his limitations, and have me build the deck. *Smile*

Whether or not you enjoy the work that life has pressed upon you, I think we're called to perform to the best of our abilities. I know He also gave me a passion for writing.

Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. ~Proverbs 19:20

The fact that you're reading these words today tells me you have a desire to express yourself in the written word. You have a love, a passion instilled within that begs to be shared. Many of us have multiple talents that we might use on site. Some are used for our own self-worth. We want to write stories and poems that are acclaimed by others, or that are published. Some are able to teach others about various aspects of writing. You may be a very good reviewer, able to encourage others to meet or exceed their own expectations.

Whatever your writing skills, I believe they are meant to be shared with others here. Helping others also helps ourselves. My reviewing skills got so much better just because I was forced to research the very points I wanted to pass along. After all I didn't want the information I was sharing to be wrong. As my confidence increased, I became more encouraging to others.

No man is an island.... ~John Donne

Human beings do not thrive when isolated from others. If you wish to cultivate your passion for writing, become more involved with others on site. Share the gifts nds talents you've been given.
