About This Newsletter

Something mysterious is lurking out there ... just beyond the edges of your peripheral vision. What is it? Did that shadow move? Is that cigarette smoke I smell? Whose footsteps are following me everywhere I go? Eyes dart every which way, trying to catch a glimpse of the danger that lurks ... out there.

Such are the panicked feelings and thoughts of the victim in a mystery story...

Letter from the editor

Happy Hauntings to everyone this haunted month containing Halloween!

In honor of so spooky and mysterious a holiday, I thought I'd focus on the spooktacular and haunting contests to be found on writing.com this month.

First we have "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. by A Guest Visitor , a contest that provides prompts and asks us to create mysterious tales around various settings and such. I was intrigued by the ghoulish prompt to write about something creepy that takes place in an elementary school classroom -- of course, the contest creator meant something other than the strange and unusual happenings that take place in my own elementary classroom on a daily basis...hee!

Then, we move on to "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. by A Guest Visitor , into which all items are submitted annonymously so that the ghostly judges won't be biased for or against the living! It will be interesting to see what collection of haunted works get submitted to this one, and it will provide vastly entertaining pieces of mostly a grave or eternal nature, if you catch my drift!

Next, we stop off to visit "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. by A Guest Visitor , whose mysterious creator seeks haunted tales and ghoulish legends that are appropriate for those among us who have yet to break into the age of double digits. Yes, that's right! She is looking for spooky stories for children under ten years of age. Have you got the stamina to attempt this terrifying endeavor? We shall see, won't we?

And last, but not least, we have "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. by A Guest Visitor , for the mysterious and otherwise grave poets among us who might have thus far felt abandoned. Follow the prompts and take us through a graveyard of verbiage that not only fits the acrostic prompt, but rhymes as well! A terrifying prospect, if I do say so myself.

Oh, and let us not forget my own spooktacular contribution to this eclectic cemetery collection of contests: "Invalid Item"  Open in new Window. by A Guest Visitor ! That's right ghosts and ghouls! I am presenting you with a mystery contest, my very first ever contest here at writing.com. But, you better hurry if you plan to enter! Time is rapidly decaying toward the deadline....Muwahahahahahahahaha!!

And thus ends another enthralling mystery newsletter by the one and only InkyShadows Author Icon!

May the spirits be with you. May you always be upwind of those decaying souls who surround you. And, may your descent into death and the realm of the underworld be swift and yet pungently eternal.
