Secret Admirers

Have you ever had a secret admirer? Or been a secret admirer yourself? I love the idea of one person admiring another from afar. The thought that there is someone out there that pictures me as the ideal woman for them is flattering. Someone who wishes they could approach, but doesn't have the courage... yet, is tantalizing.

The idea behind the secret admirer is very romantic. A person so enamored with another that their heart beats faster with just a glance. A writer of love letters, too shy to sign their name. An individual who believes they have found someone special and just needs time to work up the courage to ask them for a date. Ahhh, the thing romance novels are made of... *Heart*

With Halloween right around the corner, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the shadier side of the secret admirer, the stalker. A stalker takes admiration one step further, into obsession. Their love letters take on a horrific tone. They let the object of their desire know they are being watched by divulging small details of their day. Something as sweet as watching you sleep, when delivered from an unknown source, can be terrifying.

When writing about a secret admirer, put yourself in the recipient's shoes. If you received this attention, would it be flattering? Would it make you tremble with anticipation or fear? If you let admiration stumble over into stalking, your writing might be better suited for the horror genre!

Until Next Time,

Ask & Answer

The editors work hard to make sure the newsletters are informative and enjoyable. We appreciate your responses.

*Note1*   Incurable Romantic Author Icon - "Another great newsletter! And your editor's note was worded wonderfully. Artistic and also compassionate for the hurricane victims. Wonderfully done."

*Note1*   billwilcox - "You make a very point about relationships standing the test of disaster. I feel that a person's true character comes out during a high stress situation. Will we help our neighbor, or run with our family? It is very interesting to watch people's reactions in an emergency type situation."

*Note1*   Drima Waye Author Icon "Although I don't write romance often, the advice offered for Tragedy and Triumph was very useful to me. Using dark themes in my stories has been one of my strongest points. I agree that tragedy brings very diverse reactions in people. I think how you react to tragedy shows how you really are as a person."

Romance has changed over the past few years, dark themed stories are not unheard of anymore. I personally like mixing genres with romance. *Smile*
