The Write Laugh
Oh, the pressure. There's the research, interviews, dictionary checks, thumbs through a thesaurus for the elusive better word...and then there's the writing.
So you pour out all the inspiration that is somehow lurking in the recesses of your mind. Sometimes it likes to hide, enticing you into a game of hide and seek that you really do not have the time for.
Once cornered and dragged into the semi-light of a room lit only by the winking stare of a computer screen, the words are transferred from the secret confines of a writer's mind. Hopefully they have found themselves in a format where, strung together, they create a story, a poem, or any other work of prose.
Ah! Bliss...the words are out, captured where they can't run and hide anymore. You read through and groan.
Ew! That sentence doesn't make sense--add one word, take ten out. Tut tut--cliche city, where's the thesaurus? *sigh* this bit is boring. Somebody put it out of its misery.
Finally the process of editing, revising and editing some more is complete, as near as you can make out. Releasing it to the world, it is added to your online portfolio at Writing.com, or maybe submitted to a suitable market.
And just as you push that button to submit, or drop the envelope into the metal jaws of a post box, your mouth drops open in consternation. You forgot to do a spell check.
Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
Writers love what they do, for the most part. But it is healthy, and good for the muse, to sit back and laugh at ourselves from time to time. Release the tension, refocus the mind, or just take a break that improves your health. Enjoy these items that poke a fun at our chosen profession, hobby and consuming passion.
