Letter from the editor

Keep up the Momentum!

By now, many of you are wrapping up your NaNoWriMo novels, sprinting to finish, have stalled out (like me), or have already finished. So, now what? Well, why not keep up the momentum and keep on writing?

*Bullet* Edit your novel - While it's still fresh in your mind, go back and start the editing process. If you're anything like me, putting it off means you probably won't do it. *Laugh* During NaNo, we're unofficially not allowed to edit, as the point is to keep rushing forward. Use your free time now to go back and edit!

*Bullet* Switch gears - Try switching genres or get involved in a poetry group! When NaNo ends, it can feel like the whole world opens up to you - now you're free to write anything you wish! Use the momentum of daily writing to reinvent yourself in something new!

*Bullet* Host something - Get active by hosting a writing or reviewing contest! Maybe you need a break from all the writing, so take the time to do some reading and reviewing of others' writing!

*Bullet* Review - Reviewing has about a million benefits (trust me, I counted)! *Pthb* One of the fun things about NaNo is that it forces you to write so that you get used to the practice, but it doesn't necessarily teach you to be a better writer. You know what does, though? Reviewing! Plus, there are all kinds of site rewards for reviewing, like gift points, building friendships, etc. Find a reviewing group or review on your own!

NaNoWriMo can be a big ego-booster for a writer! Whether or not you "won" by completing 50,000 words in one month, you won by attempting! It's a brave endeavor even trying, and I applaud all of you! You rock! *Smile*

Keep on writing!

Ask & Answer

My last newsletter, ("Contests & Activities Newsletter (October 30, 2013)Open in new Window.), discussed NaNoWriMo!

I'm not doing Nano this year, mostly because I want to work on extending and editing the novel I started during Nano last year - "Grand & Epic AdventuresOpen in new Window.. I have shamefully neglected it, but I've had some excellent reviews and I want to take that feedback and use it to make the work better. So that's what I hope to start on, instead of a new novel. *Smile*

Good luck!! *Smile*

I will write a novel up to 70,000 by Thanksgiving Day. I wrote the first 15,000 this week after I've been learning daily from 30-Days of Character Building. If you've not participated in this Blogging Activity, you're missing a lot of great learning. I'll say I guarantee you'll write a novel after you've been through that thirty days of writing. I don't enter NaNoWriMo because the pressure and activity slows me down with confusion. Instead, I write more, better, faster on my own. Good luck to all who do enter this year. Keep Writing ANN

Wow, that's great! Good luck! *Smile*
