Birthday Busyness!
All of you were busy entering contests, raffles and participating during the birthday fun, did you keep track?
This advice is for those of you who are active in the community and participate in many things. A chart or calendar can be of great help, if you mark down what contests you entered and what other activities you're participating in. If a contest needs a daily entry to win a big prize, make sure you enter. You wouldn't want to be disqualified if you miss a post. This way, you can see at a glance what needs to be done, written and posted. This helps with your time management and keep you focused. It also shows you what forums you should revisit to congratulate the winners, thank the contest host and perhaps donate some gift points for another round.
If your entry wins a prize, be sure to note you won inside your entry (when editing is allowed) to direct others to the contest and show off a little pride in your work. You earned it!
Then what? What happens now, after all this awesome fun dies down? Oh you know what I'm going to say...editing! LOL Well it's true, if you had to cut a really terrific scene down to fit a certain word count, you can now add it back in and expand your story. You can take more time to explore your characters, maybe another story is waiting to be told. Or you can put your stories in an organized 2013 birthday contest folder for editing "someday" and take the time to review some of your competitors. Some contest judges don't review with the large volume of entries, so the authors might appreciate some feedback. Since you entered the contest, you're aware of the parameters of the rules and inspiration prompts, so this will give you a little insight reviewing their entry.
All in all, I hope you enjoyed the birthday excitement and write on!
This month's question: Do you review other entries in contests you're participating in? Would you help another contestant if they forgot a word count or bitem? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!

Excerpt: Go to my port, click on my slider tab, and then manipulate my slider. Don't forget to "take a snapshot" when you are done, so your slider manipulation can be saved. Make a poem, or some silly sentences. The more parts of the slider you use in your entry, the bigger chance to win!
Excerpt: I want your best boy meets girl romance story. It must contain one main conflict and resolution. It can be a happy ending or a thwarted ending but it has to make me feel good for both of the main characters at the end. It may be a summer/vacation/chance meeting romance where they have to part at the end, but if you feel good about what happened it's okay.

Last month's question: How does your network help you on WDC?
Odessa Molinari replied: As soon as I joined WDC I looked to make friends. The first were people who had reviewed my items. I invited them to a campfire as a chance to get to know them. When I needed help it was these friends I turned to. |
