Host a Contest

What if you hosted a contest?

Going over my recent newsletters, I saw that I mostly wrote about entering into contests. Looking at the contest page, I found a few highly creative contests that were new, but several contests have been around since the dawn of Writing.Com time. The contests page could use a fresh wind.

What do you need to host a contest?

*House* Ideally, the ability to host a message forum item in your portfolio, which requires a basic membership at least.

*ExclaimB* A good idea for a genre and theme that you want to see reflected in the contest entries.

*UmbrellaV* You have to decide on a set of rules. Those should include:
*StarR* Beginning and ending time.
*Star* Word count for stories or line count for poems.
*StarB* The allowed rating (E through XGC).
*StarBl* How to submit. The most common form is to ask for b-item links in the message, but some contests allow the whole submission text to be entered in a message.

*RibbonO* Prizes. If you are low on gift points and can't offer lavish prizes, don't be shy to ask for donations to the contest bank. Many Writing.Com members are more than happy to help a new contest to get off the ground.

*Cab* After the contest is over, send out reviews as soon as you can. The writers are eager to find out how you liked their writing and if they placed.

Any new contest created and submitted through the form at the bottom will be featured in the June 5 Contests and Activities newsletter. So, what are you waiting for? Your advertisement is taken care of!
