About This Newsletter

All slang is metaphor, and all metaphor is poetry.

G.K. Chesterton (1874 - 1936)

Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.

I do believe this cheese quote has since been proven incorrect :)

Epulaeryu – Poetry Food for Thought

Oddly enough, I explored this poetry form after a bout of food poisoning. I’m not sure if I was testing the intestinal waters to see if I was still ill or if I wanted to see if I could stimulate my appetite again. Either way, it got my mind working and out of the fogginess of illness.

The epulaeryu is a more recent poetry form, created by Joseph S. Spence, Senior. The name of this short (33 syllable) form is a fusion of Latin and Asian that loosely means form of a feast.

MUST HAVES

--7 lines.
--Syllable counts for the lines are as follows: 7/5/7/5/5/3/1
--About food (either an ordinary or special meal, feast etc.)
--End the final line with an exclamation point!

COULD HAVES or WHAT IS THE POET’S CHOICE IN ALL THIS?

-- Any type of rhyme, including no rhyme.
