Newsletters in general provide some great reading, both from the selected links to Writing.Com members' items and from the informative help and advice given in the editorials. The Contest Newsletter is your portal to understanding the mechanics involved with the contests. Even though some of the links may have become invalid, previous editions of each newsletter still provide useful tips and advice that you might have forgotten. Take a search through them whenever you get a chance. You might find the exact information or incentive you need to go forward with an idea you've had or write an entry you've been thinking about.

WELCOME!
ANOTHER AMAZING BIRTHDAY
Are you practicing your sing-a-long voice? Writing.Com is approaching another milestone - it's 5th birthday! The addiction continues, but what a grand one it is. The day before writing this edition:
230 new members joined the site
307 new items were created
239 items were clicked as "favorites"
1,462 items were rated
1,086 reviews were sent
The latest 230 new members join the 53,750 members who are already registered, of which 16,142 are writers with items in their portfolios. This is astounding! Can you imagine how many items are being produced? Well, the "Sitewide Stats" states there are 168,181 items housed within the boundaries of W.C.. THAT IS A LOT OF CREATIVITY!!! But then, for the past 5 years, this has been an actively creative community. Nearly 345,000 members have joined since it's beginning and over 899,000 items have been produced. You could certainly call that a lot of activity. Especially, when you consider that there have been over 1,621,000 reviews given so far and over 399,000 forum posts made. http://mem.writing.com/main/stats.php
During the next few weeks, it would be great if you sent a note or card of appreciation to StoryMaster and StoryMistress. Just think...if we send enough of them, they'll be able to wallpaper their office. *goes in search of wholesale wallpaper paste*

Thank you to everyone who sent in comments! I truly appreciate it.
This is a very good newsletter and I enjoy throughly. Thank you for featuring my Triolet Contest. Keep up the good work. I was wondering what Sponsoring an Item was.
Rixfarmgirl
Thank you for featuring my auction in the newsletter! I love reading about the other activities here, I seem to find a lot of inspiration and ideas from the editorials! Very Nice Job!
catty
Excellent newsletter, thanks! I haven't used the sponser item yet 'cause I'm shy, but I'll think about it!
schipperke
Schipperke, you can begin by sponsoring an item during the time you're online and remove it from the Sponsor listing just before you log out. It's a good way to get used to it. Being shy is quite common among writers. It might be one of the reasons why many writers become so good at their craft.
Thanks for posting my contest in your newsletter. The exposure is welcome!
Tammy~Catchin Up~
Thank you so much for your lovely tribute. I appreciate it. I will miss writing the newsletter, but as you know, my busy schedule planning my wedding and also getting ready for my son's wedding must take priority. I will continue to encourage all to write and enter contests.
Thanks to you and my fellow editors for your kind support....see ya around the site
Pam
I miss ya, Pam!!!!! (((hugs)))
Thanks, that helps me with a starting point. I think I have an idea!
A thinker never sleeps
Thank you for adding my raffle to your news letter. I have already sponsored it, put in on my billboard and in my signature block, but every little bit helps.
Charmin
Just a comment for the person who was disappointed when a contest mentioned in the newsletter was closed. Because I am frequently late in reading the newsletter this happens to me a lot. Even though I may be disappointed that I'm too late to enter, I find that contests are an excellent place to find promts. When I'm in the mood to write and don't know what to write, I browse through different contests until I find somthing that inspires me.
arrowwrites
Excellent point, Arrow! Ideas don't go by deadlines. And even if one happens to be "stale", it can always be revamped or brought up to date.
Is there any chance you and the other Contest Newsletter editors could look into indicating in the newsletter whether the featured contests are poetry, story stories or both?
Meg: Writes Daily in 2006
Hi, Meg. I can try. Often, the host states what type of contest it is in the title or they will add an explanation in the description block. But, I'll try and keep your suggestion in mind when I'm listing them.
