Action Adventures Make Great Series

Yes, I know that there are many many really entertaining Action Adventure short stories. In this newsletter, I want to shine a light on Action Adventure series.

As a reader, I really like to be transported into another world when I read books or stories of any length. The more elaborate the world, the more I get to know the characters, the more time I want to spend within those entertaining pages. As a young writer in elementary school, I never wrote stories beyond one page. A family friend, a poet, encouraged me to write down scenes from my life, scenes with action. He got so excited about a scene that I described to him that I actually sat down and wrote it down. Of course, when he read it, he gushed over with praise. Remember, I was young, so encouragement was much more important than seeking perfection. He latched on to the plot, the visuals, and the way a short moment from my life became an experience he could share through my writing it down.

If you want to know what the story was about: the pet monkey of a street musician stole a piece of my ice cream. I'm not making this up!

Growing up, I went away from writing fiction and stayed with the things I had to write for school, studies, or work. In 2007, I was challenged to write a short description for a character that I used in Shadowrun. I ended up fascinating myself so much that I wrote him four novels. Then, I just couldn't stop living in that world, I wrote books for my favorite characters. All that before mastering ten-finger typing. (I know how to type now, luckily.)

So, allow yourself to be epic. Enjoy others being epic. Just look at the new fiction that gets published and captures millions of people. The big ones that come to mind are Twilight, Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, Harry Potter. All those series combine intense action adventure with fantasy, magic, and peril. They draw us in and make us want to live in those stories. The beauty of reading a series is that once you're through the first time, you can pick those books up at any random page and meet your favorite characters, or those you loathe, or immerse yourself in a world so unlike your own.

Enjoy the first chapters or parts of some of the books Writing.Com members are writing. Live in their world and let them know how you liked it.
