Hoppin' Busy!!!
This has been the busiest summer of my entire life... at least it seems like it to me. I feel like I've swallowed a big bubble of anxiety and it won't go away, lol! We are going camping tomorrow (as I type), and I just remembered I need to do this newsletter before I go. Not only that, I can't find all the info for my auditor, who is arriving the day after I get back from up north. Our summer reading program is beginning the day I come back to work, and I've had to throw that together since we were seriously thinking about not having one this year (due to the big move)... until a group donated $200 to us to go toward one. I won't keep boring you (I could go on and on), but I'm wondering if this has been an extra busy summer for anyone else?
So... where does my writing fit in? It's almost impossible for me to write lately, other than the newsletter once a month, but that does keep me going somewhat. Other than that, I'm writing in my head. I know, that sounds lame, but I do get all kinds of ideas. I try to write them down in a notebook for future writer's block, when I finally really do have time to write again. I realize I could always make time, right? Get up at 4 am, right? I do that... but to practice my fiddle. I almost feel as if I've traded one love for another, but that isn't so. It's just something very special in my life right at this moment and I need to do it. I will write again, I know that.
Gee, this is not one of my more informational newsletters, is it? I apologize for that, deeply. Please forgive me and... Go have some fun!!!
Love,
Cubby ")

~~~And Now... For Our Featured Newbie Presentation!~~~
Excerpt: His wife screamed and leapt from her seat. Her hands flew to her face in an attempt to block out the view of the obscene dinner, of the king, of the whole world. Couches were overturned as general, priest, merchant and guest scrambled away. The sounds and smells of vomiting filled the room.
Excerpt: From a hollowed out hole in the tree stared a pair of golden eyes, they watched Kate with alarm; hoping that she wouldn’t look up and discover that it was there. Humans were not its friends, it despised the very thought, touch or encounter with the degraded race; but the cries of this female brought shivers through its body, as did her resemblance to another one that it had known . Stepping out of its hiding place it stood before her.
Excerpt: His name was Joe. He was twenty-four years old. He lived in the Southern district of Brooklyn. He lived amongst un-crowded streets. Only self-absorbed narcotics roamed them. He swayed back and forth from a cunning mischievous persona, to a diligent and depressive state of being, which by the passing time, took over his marred heart. He lived alone. No loved ones to bother, no felines to accompany. None. He lived solely for the purpose of a cosmic joke. He smirked from time to time at the absurdity that was his daily life. He laughed at himself, also, through the untimely regrettable doings of a fictionalized character by the ironic name of Pathos Robinson. He lived and did not, by sole means of regret.
Excerpt: The man made a flourish bow. "Forgive me, your majesty. I am Lord Sahardi Bizanto of Taharan. Also known as the Pirate of the five Oceans. It was I who brought this delightful little present to your majesty. I have business with the lady I wish to settle before I completely hand her over to you. With your permission of course."
"What sort of business?"
Excerpt: A while later, and forty-three floors up, Jac was still climbing the spotless marble stairs. He had no idea how far up he was, but he hoped he was near his goal. As he reached the top of another flight, he was met by three separate stair cases, all going in completely different directions. He swore to himself. There were no signs to be seen anywhere. Jac ran a hand through his ruffled hair, and breathed in deeply, and sat down at the top of the stairs, contemplating his position. He had no idea how much further he had to go, and the clock was always ticking. He could risk taking a staircase, and finding his apartment. But, if he ended up in the wrong place, it would waste valuable time. He needed to rest before he completed his task. Of course, he could go all the way back down, and try to find more help. Jac stepped down a few stairs, and peered over the railings. It was such a long way down...
Excerpt: A sudden darkness flooded his vision and the electronic whine of the screen ceased, leaving him in a surprisingly desolate, but most welcome silence. He sat confusedly in the dark for a few seconds, his eyes weak and aching from staring too long at the harshly glowing screen, until he realized what had happened. Ohh, of course… it must be another blackout. This was becoming a regular occurrence, almost every day, in fact… why couldn’t the power company get it together? Though to be sure, he couldn’t remember a hotter summer in his life. One-hundred Fahrenheit seemed to be the average high; every year seemed to get worse. Already he could feel his palms sweating without the motion of the fan to stir the stale and humid air. He squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed them, the center of his vision obscured by the sickening green afterglow of the screen. He shook his head, groaned softly and hoisted himself from his seat to feel for the off switch so the screen wouldn’t come back on suddenly when power was restored (he considered how amazing it was that they still allowed you to turn the thing off, but he knew that’d be next to go).
~ Yeah, Feedback! ~
Meg: Writes Daily in 2006
I'm glad you've highlighted the notepad. I learned of it only recently myself. I use it when I am reading other author's work so I can make notes for their review. I can focus on the piece, not remembering what I want to put in the review.
Believe it or not, I only began using it recently, too! Thanks to Pastvoices, who kept asking me to write about it, I finally did... But I had to do a little research on it first since I had never used it beforehand, lol!
Just one wee correction, dear Cubby. Notepads are restricted to five pages for anyone with an Upgraded Membership and below, not the 25 available to Premium +.
Good newsletter, as always!
Aw, gee! How embarassing that is! I'm so glad you pointed it out, though, so others who are not Premium+ will realize they have up to five pages. Thanks, Puditat!!!
Usually the editor(s) of the newsletters go through and pick items that either fit the theme of their newsletter, or ones that stand out in one way or another, i.e. exceptional storyling, few typos, etc. Don't give up; just keep doing what you are doing! You can also submit items to newsletters by filling in the feedback window at the bottom of each newsletter. It may or may not be featured, but would certainly be worth a try!
Somebody’s reading my story! <grin>
Thank you very much for including one of my stories in your newsletter. I feel quite honoured to be included in such august company. I just finished reading the stories listed here and am so impressed by their talent.
Thank you, Cubby for taking the time to put this together with great information (I had fun playing with my notepad).
I’m looking forward to the next newsletter!
Glad to share in your enthusiasm!
PastVoices
I am getting closer to done Cubby. This is the July 14 Noticing Newbies Newsletter, so I am getting there. Thank you for covering My Notepad in such detail for me! I know I will be using it often, now that I know what to do with it. There are many times when I write a column and go to do suggestions and proofs of my own I will remove a section that is a good start for another column! This will be great instead of going in and out of Word back and forth.
Newsletter ON!!
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Hearing responses like your own make it all well worth it.
