About This Newsletter

Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time.~~Jean Paul

It was on my fifth birthday that Papa put his hand on my shoulder and said,
'Remember, my son, if you ever need a helping hand,
you'll find one at the end of your arm.'~~Sam Levenson

Most of us can remember a time when a birthday - especially if it was one's own -
brightened the world as if a second sun has risen.~~Robert Staughton Lynd

And that is what happens when WdC has a birthday!!!
Every year it gets bigger and brighter...much the same as WdC does;
we truly are a beacon to the writing world!!!

Letter from the editor

Ah....so much going on, so much to do! Our WdC Birthday Bash is in full swing! In the midst of all the reviewing and reading; writing and entering, take a few moments and ponder, just for a moment or three what WdC means to you. Think about the impact this site has had on you, on your writing, on the friends you've made and the words you've written.

Personally, WdC has helped me grow as both a writer and a friend. I've learned to both read and write with a greater depth. I've learned to both see and listen with greater depth as well! It is no surprise to anyone just how invested I am in WdC. I truly think it is THE best writer's site: with the greatest people, run by the most super and devoted of captains, chock full with innovations aimed at continuing to allow WdC to grow and become ever more the site to belong to.

My feelings for WdC were what lead to the idea for the WdC Anthology. It was a way to give back and a way to showcase just how phenomenal our writers are! I was cautioned, upon being given permission to launch this venture, that we might not get enough submissions to be able to pick and choose the best and still have enough.

Folks, you outdid yourselves and should be very proud! We received almost 400 submissions and raised 3,821,907 gps for Random Acts of Kindness just on the submission fees alone!!!! We anticipate letting everyone know the results within two weeks and will let those of you who were accepted know shortly thereafter. This will allow time for pre-orders before it actually goes to press.

No one has to buy a book, but I really hope lots of people do! All profits will continue to go to RAOK. The books will only cost $10.00!! We actually think the book will now be a larger size...perhaps 7 x 9 inches (or possibly, even larger!) and it looks like it will be about 250-300 pages long! That is a LOT of book for ten bucks! It is available for pre-order now at www.wynwidynpress.com. This will be the only place you can get it! We want the money to go to RAOK, not a third party intermediary who will want their cut! And think about it...this will be something very special...you will know folks included. You may well be. What a holiday gift this would be for the grandparents, your mom and dad, your kids...not a bad stocking stuffer at all...and you know they'd love it!

Overseas? Not a problem. We will ship it to you as well!!! Might take a bit longer, so do not delay! We will ship out the books in the order that orders are received.

Happily some folks are already pre-ordering the book! We anticipate it being released the beginning of October! We had initially thought to try to get it out in the birthday month but then we never anticipated the fantastic turnout! The more pre-orders we get, the more that will be donated to RAOK sooner!

I can't wait to hold the finished book in my hands. I know it is something that I shall treasure forever! And if enough folks buy a copy, I might be able to persuade the powers that be to make this an annual event! Wouldn't that be just the coolest thing as a writing site to have?

Ask & Answer

Crys-not really here Author IconMail Icon writes in: Fyn, Unfortunately, I am not shocked by what was told to your newly yellow friend. There are always members who, after a promotion to yellow, feel somewhat better than black cases. Part of this is human nature, and luckily most members don't let themselves get wrapped up in it for long. You're very right that WDC is about helping all writers succeed! Case color is not an indication of your skill as a writer, it is an indication of the positive interactions, active reviewing, and time dedicated to the site.

Hear hear!!!

I, for one, am excited for the WDC Anthology. An anthology such as this one has not been attempted before, to my knowledge, and it will be a great boost to the site. It's great to see some new activities emerging that will give WDC the publicity it deserves. We have some great writers here, and we will hopefully prove that to a larger audience through the anthology. Plus, RAOK is an excellent group to support as well!

Sure is!

blunderbus says:I was also somewhat taken aback by your tale of the two 'yellow' cases. When I started reviewing as a Rising Star (in particular) I made a point of choosing a disproportionate number of 'black' cases because I thought that higher levels had had plenty of reviews and would get plenty more for new pieces from their own group. Perhaps I was being just as biased though? Food for thought.

I did that too! Now, I try to review folks who review me, or sometimes, just because! I review a lot of newbies because it is a great way to welcome them to the site and make them feel welcome.

Angelica Weatherby- Grateful28 Author IconMail Icon comments; I have been around for over 4 years now- not a newbie. *Blush* I can say I totally agree with you- this is a place to learn and ask for help. :-d Great newsletter!

troy ulysses davis Author IconMail Icon adds: Continue to encourage. Truly enjoying the voyage.

bertiebrite hoping for peace Author IconMail Icon enthuses: I believe the Anthology is one great idea. I don't care about the submission cost, I don't care that I don't get a penny out of it. For me the thrill of being in a published work (one that I did not have to publish myself) is exilirating beyond the norm. I encourage everyone to submit. I am so pleased to see folks donating the entry fee, because that proves to me that WDC is truly a community and truly wants to help fellow writers toward success.

So many folks helped out those that needed the gp help. WdC is the greatest!!!! ...just saying...!
