Was one of your New Year's resolutions to become more active in our community? Some of you are shivering in your boots right now...due to a activity I'm hosting "Snowball Fight for R.A.O.K.! " . If you haven't seen the Fight, check it out! I don't normally plug my own items in a newsletter, but since it's for a good cause, I'll discuss it.
It started out as a little idea to have some fun after the holidays and help members reconnect. Then I thought, why not have it help raise gift points for the "RAOK Upgrade Brigade Group" group? The group is really low on funds right now and they'd love to keep helping members with upgrades. Throwing a few snowballs at your friends can be just as fun as the "real thing" and you don't have to freeze your backside off doing it. So I made the forum and the cNotes. Then I threw a few snowballs...okay, maybe more than a few. Then I was smothered with an inbox full of return fire. The WDC community apparently loves torturing each other! The activity has already raised almost 300,000 gift points for RAOK. Nice job!
The next time you have an idea drifting around in the back of your mind for a contest or activity, discuss it with a friend! Perhaps they can brainstorm with you and get something fun going. Hash out the pros and cons, rules and prizes and see what you can come up with. It might end up as a snowball storm.

Excerpt: This contest is open to all members of WDC. It will run each month from midnight on the first day, until midnight on the last day of the month. The reviews will be judged on their quality and not quantity. We want to make sure all of the newbies are offered the best help and support that each one of us can provide.
Excerpt: Write the best story or poem in 24 hours or less and win 10,000 GPs.
Excerpt: Please note that we are not a group based on only giving reviews - the act of goodwill extends BEYOND that. It's in welcoming a new member to our site. It's in promoting our site to others who might not have heard of us. It's in granting an upgrade to one in need or to newbies to foster their writing. It's in dropping someone a c-note or just a little message to let them know they are being thought of, it's in participating in writing contests and improving our skills to become better, and so much more.

This month's question: What Contests or Activities would you like to see hosted this year?
Last month's question: What is your favourite holiday activity with your family?
Perhaps some of these answers could inspire a new activity on Writing.com!
NaNoNette answered: My favorite holiday activity with my family is to go on long walks or hikes along the Pacific Ocean here in Southern California. Of course, we like to eat good food and cuddle up with a movie or play video games until our eyes flicker too. Well, the video games are for the kids and husband. I'm more likely to be right here, on Writing.Com until my eyes flicker.
ember_rain replied: Baking Cookies and putting up the christmas tree. We do it every year on my husbands birthday.
tgalbraith1 submitted: Every year, on the Saturday right after Thanksgiving, the whole family gets together and we make Christmas cookies and candies and other random goodies to last all through New years. We call this day: "Cookie Day!"
J. Marie Ravenshaw admits: This has been a family tradition since I was in elementary school...We play 'Secret Santa' on Christmas Eve to our close friends. We ring their doorbell and run, leaving a tin of Christmas cookies and a 6 pack of beer on their front porch . So much fun...
