Feeling New Again
Funny thing about newsletters--actually, about any writing in general--once you put pen to paper, you're never sure where you'll end up.
That's my situation today. I had a great topic for this month's newsletter, and opened up last month's newsletter on Testimonials to use as a template for this month's letter. I was reminded that I hadn't even taken a few minutes to add my testimonial to the collection.
Am I a giant among my fellow procrastinators, or what?
Rest assured, by the time you read these words, my testimonial thoughts should be indelibly imprinted in the WDC archives.
I realized that although I'm a Moderator, I've only been here a little over three years. That's pretty new when one considers WDC will celebrate its 11th successful year in less than two weeks. And then I thought that I've more recently developed a serious passion for poetry--at the beginning of this year to be specific. Thus, I'm a newbie to things poetic. Okay, I've dabbled occasionally by writing a poem for some event with which I was involved. Even though I received some encouraging feedback, I never considered myself a poet. Heck, I didn't dare review anyone's poetry.
For some reason, which escapes me, I embraced the (new for me) medium of form poetry. To that end I joined a poetry group requiring me to both write AND review poems.
My point is that I'd become somewhat stagnant in my writing endeavors. Adding poetry to my writing arsenal broadened my horizons. I felt new again, a feeling I found both exhilarating and desirable.
Perhaps this current passion will give way to some other style of writing, something to date I've been afraid to try. Becoming published may be my next step. Who knows? But I won't be as afraid to try something new as I was when I began writing poetry. Trying some new style or genre of writing, or perhaps going someplace different for your inspiration will rejuvenate your writing, and make your writing new again.
For you newbies--don't be afraid to explore all the facets of WDC. I'll bet you find something exciting you've never considered before. And for you older members--embrace a new genre or one of the many item types available. I'll bet that change will spark your creativity in ways you can't imagine.
Now if I can just overcome my procrastinative proclivities.

And from the mailbox about my last Noticing Newbies newsletter, "Noticing Newbies Newsletter (July 27, 2011)"
From cgriggs: Hi all, I was told about this group by Quihadi. I'm a bit overwhelmed, but with time I think I'll get comfortable. (Way too much, at my age, to see, learn, remember, etc.) I've met some very talented people here that make me recognize my limitations. LOL Thank you for a great forum. Charlie
I applaud your willingness to dive into this wonderful medium of the Internet, Charlie. I remember reading recently that the number of seniors (and I include myself as a senior, though on the younger end--) tackling their computers is above 50%. I have no doubt you will master this. And never hestitate to ask questions of the rest of us--that's what we're here for, my friend.
From Sara♥Jean : Mmmm, what a fascinating approach! I made one a long, long time ago, but I never saw if it made the "cut", so to speak. But that was a long, long time ago. This newsletter is truly awesome. Great job!
Indeed, SaraJean. I submitted my testimony, and now must followup to see if it got posted. Since it's submitted as a Survey, it must be 'approved' and posted.
From : Jace, thanks for opening my eyes to my surrounding ... wish you the best in your writing.
It's my pleasure, and a neat thing to hear that I may have helped in some way.
From troy ulysses davis : Very inspirational and informative. Keep up the good work.
Again, I'm glad you liked my offering last month.
From Brooke : Great job on this NL Jace. You always have a fresh eye for things that no one else has thought of. I am one of the veterans that has yet to write a testimonial but as much as I love this site, I think it's time. Thanks for the inspiration my friend.
Thank you, Miss Brooke. I exercise that eye by looking at the little black lines on a tape measure.
From atwhatcost: Optimist here ... and I've been on WDC for 19 months, so not an entire Noob. Another reason why some of us disappear and some haven't written a testimony yet--this place got us to the point of wanting to get published for money, and we're working our fingers to a frazzle. Once published, boy, oh boy! That will be a great testimony! ;)
That's a better sounding reason than my procrastination. And yes, it will be a great reason.
