Dance Like A Rockette!

The Rockettes are a precision dance company that performs at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. During the Christmas season, the Rockettes perform several times a day, seven days a week. The end of every show is closed with a routine of precision, eye-level high kicks in chorus line unison. Oh to be that limber!

How do the Rockettes relate to contests and activities? I knew you'd ask. Being a dancer takes discipline and precision. Just like a theater performance, a contest or activity has to be well planned with perfect timing or will be booed off the stage and never become successful. It requires dedication and discipline, and if you want to be the star of the show, you have to be reliable and do your high-kicks even if you're not feeling up to it. This means creating solid rules, being available and courteous to your participants and making it fun for everyone.

It takes hard work and dedication. Even when someone wants to be a diva and not do their share, you have to be the director and get them to stick to their commitments. That might not make you the favorite person of the day, but the reward is the applause when the curtain closes. And if you run a successful activity, more people will join in the fun and help make the work easier. If you don't really love what you're doing, it will be difficult to succeed. Try hosting a contest or activity that you think will be fun and members will have fun too.

Also, just like on Broadway, if you join a contest or activity, send the owner a review so they can get some feedback on their efforts and improve.

The world seems to get smaller and smaller nowadays. With fast transportation and modern media, a country that was the other side of the world not so long ago, feels now like our neighbour. But does that make us more international? That's what I would like to find out.

Ask & Answer

This month's question: What do you think is the most important point to making a contest / activity successful?

Last month's question: Did you know about item alias? What do you use your alias words for?

MumstheWord Author Icon replied: Thank you SO much on two levels. Firstly for mentioning "Invalid ItemOpen in new Window. and second for covering the wonderful alias. I knew about them, but had never quite got around to looking up the details for setting them up. A great newsletter. Thank you!

kristiana answered: I didn't know about item aliases! What a great tool! I will definitely start using it!!!

Phoenyx, risen from the ashes Author Icon responded: I knew about item alias, I initially didn't try it because I didn't have any "high traffic" items I thought warranted it. Also, I thought it was free, or was it when it came out? Maybe I've just been hiding under a rock and didn't notice.

Sandy~HopeWhisperer Author Icon sent: Great information. I was not aware of item aliases. I need to visit MLHelp to see what else I am missing. Thanks for a good newsletter.
