When I say the word love, it will likely bring several images to the mind, both good and bad. Love is powerful. It has the ability to make or break a person - sometimes temporarily, sometimes for the rest of their lives.
That is why love is a powerful tool for authors. When love is used as part of a character's motivation, the reader will be able to relate. Or at least understand.
This week's Spiritual Newsletter is, you may have guessed it, all about love. I hope you will enjoy it.

I'd written an entire newsletter about sin, but at the very last moment, I thought better of it. It's a rather heavy topic, the sun is shining where I live, and I'm in a jolly good mood. And besides, it's a week of love. Many of us have just celebrated Easter, and at the end of this week there's the Royal Wedding over here in Britain. I won't be watching it as I reckon I don't actually know the couple, not personally, but I do wish them a wonderful day, and I hope they'll have their happily ever after.
Love is a good thing. I may not be heavily religious, but I do like this Christian quote - And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Love is great. It is powerful. When we experience it, it can be overwhelming. We search for it, we wish for it, we long for it and we cherish it. We love our children, our parents, our family, our partners and our pets. The loss of it can be devastating. Love makes up a big part of our lives, and I believe it's a big part of our nature. It can inspire big deeds, both good and bad.
Love is also an important topic for writers. Many song lyrics tell a story about love and that's understandable, because when we love, we want to share it, and when we lose it, the pain flows from our souls. There will always be an audience for tales of love. It may be something that's only typical of women, but I know that when I suffered from a broken heart, listening to the songs written by other broken hearts helped me to let it all out.
Love is found in every literary genre, from romance (obviously) to horror. The reader understands the motivation of a character if they search for the person of their dreams. They'll even understand, if not agree, with the actions of the bad guy if he does bad things in its name.
Love is more than just attraction. Some say it's simply a sensation brought to us by a chemical reaction in our bodies, but I do think it's more than that. After that first rush of feelings (which, yes, can be powerful), I don't think people would remain together, loyally and faithfully, for the rest of their lives, if there wasn't something deeper going on.
Love isn't always that fragile. If it is, it's a very weak version of love.
I know that it's a cliché to ask this of you, but if there are those in your life right now who you haven't expressed your love to in a while, please consider doing so. It can make someone's day to hear it, and it might make a big difference to someone who isn't feeling too cheerful. And even if they're already having a good day, it will still make them smile.
And to all of you who are starting a new writing project, may I request an uncomplicated love story? It doesn't have to be simplistic, or as soppy as my request above, but on a pleasant, sunny day like this I like to read about characters who don't have a million obstacles to overcome. Sometimes it's nice when love is easy.
In the meanwhile, I'd like to wish you all a very happy week filled with many smiles and, yes, filled with love.

Sweethonesty - This newsletter came at a perfect time for me. I made copies of the ones that inspired me and want to extend my appreciation to you for bringing me to a peaceful day.
Thank you so much for your lovely words! I am so glad you enjoyed the newsletter. I wasn't certain about the topic at first, but now I am glad that I wrote it!

Zeke - My prayers are very simple. I ask my all-powerful Father to grant me what he already knows I need. Quiet times of reflection are very important in my opinion too.
Thank you so much. I think you are right - that simple is the way to go! Though sometimes that's difficult, when my mind is really busy.

Specter - Faith in Christ is the only way to enlighten your mind to a far greater depth of understanding, even the scriptures. Faith can turn religious matters upside down. Paul did through Christ, though he never met Him.
slick
Thank you, Slick . I sure know I have a lot to learn still, especially about faith!

Budroe - Kittiara:
Thank you for highlighting my work "Invalid Item" in your Spiritual Newsletter. It was a joy to write. I hope it helps someone know just how much in love with us our "Dad" really is.
Thank you for writing the piece! .

Helen McNicol - For me, finding calm is that drive home from work, when rather than focus on the traffic and swarm of people all stressing and in the same space, I pick something simple from nature that helps me focus. It might be the huge, white cumulus clouds and the way they sweep across the sky or the way a bird lifts and falls on the wind currents. We get so caught up with our modern world that sometimes we just have to focus on something that brings us back to nature. There are moments passing us by all the time and most of them we miss because we are just too busy...
I so agree with everything you say. I love to go for a walk and calm my mind. I'm very fortunate to have lots of nature around me, and always feel refreshed when I return. I also agree that we miss so many of those moments due to our busy lives.

GRAMPA ED - Kittiara,
Nice piece you wrote. A lot of people wonder if their prayers are heard, but I like to remind people how important is your prayer. Is it just for you or did you pray for others who are worse off then you, then prayed for yourself. The other thing I like to do is go to a park or walk in the country and pray where it is nice and quiet and you are among all things that God has created for us. It's a great feeling to be alone with God.
Gramped
Thank you, Gramped! I always pray for others before I pray for myself. It wouldn't feel right, otherwise. And, like you, I love to go for a walk! I should do it more often, so thanks for reminding me.

siouxme - Thank you so much for including one of my poems in your newsletter. Always it is an honour to write thanks to the Great Spirit for the life we have.
Thank you for writing a wonderful poem! I hope to read many more in the future .
