About This Newsletter

Parents have a difficult time trying to protect their children while not wanting to suffocate them at the same time. Friends to their friends, as well, have to know when to stand back and just let something run its normal course. This Newsletter may be disturbing to some, however, if you believe you can handle sensitive subject matter, by all means, take a look ...

Letter from the editor

Hello, folks and Happy New Year! It is my honor and pleasure to be your guest editor for this week's version of the Spiritual Newsletter. No matter how much we want to cling to those we love and the things that are so important to us, we cannot bear to be weighed down by the heaviness attached to doing that. It wears away at our spirit, thus, we are no help to anybody.

We do, people of faith that is, try very hard to hand our burdens over to God to handle for us. That works in theory, but we still wonder if there is something else we could do. The thing that we must remember is that we can only change ourselves and nobody else. Others, we can and should offer our prayers, so that they will choose wisely and better handle their burdens. As long as we remain supportive when asked, we are doing what needs to be done.

What do you do when the one you want to help refuses your good intentions? It's simple, you accept it and move forward. You must realize that what you have to offer is not what that someone needs at the moment. That's the case even when we try to convince ourselves we know better.

I recently hit that wall, when sometime before Christmas, a dear friend told me he has stage four, lung cancer and was scheduled for chemotherapy on December twenty-first. I decided to drop everything, hop on a plane and travel three thousand miles to help him. He told me not to leave my family during Christmas. He said he would beat this thing on his own, for the time being.

Well, stubborn Web~Witch, thought she should persist at thrusting her good deeds upon him for his own benefit. He again, turned me down. It was then that I realized that my hands were glued. I couldn't do what I wanted to do to make myself feel better about helping him. My, oh, my, aren't we sometimes full of ourselves. This was a humbling moment.

Folks, I have enclosed a link to a letter sent to me in response to my previous Spiritual Newsletter. It is now an item in her port. This letter grabbed me by the heart strings. Here is a courageous mother who realized that she was not in control of a situation that was tearing her apart.

Where are your hands? Open in new Window. (E)
When things are slipping through my fingers I look at my hands to see what they're holding

Please read the letter at this moment with an open heart and mind and send some prayers. Come back here for the conclusion of this Newsletter. I think it will mean more after reading the highlighted link.

For every glue man can make, man can make a solvent to release the bond. Letting the hands be free to do the things we must do to please God in this life is less painful in the long run than tearing the skin to loosen the bonds.

Folks, we are only human. No matter how much we think we can help in the most dire situations, we may only be placed on the outskirts of the problem. Thus, we have to agree that we are powerless in these situations and must turn to prayer as the only empowerment tool we have.

As we conclude this edition of the Spiritual Newsletter, I ask each of you, have you looked at your hands since reading her letter? If so, what were they doing? Has the feeling of powerlessness glued your hands together at some time in your life? I'd love to read your comments about this for my next guest editor, edition of this Newsletter.

Until then, be comforting to those in need and accept the times when they don't need you.

May you enjoy a happy, enlightened and joyous New Year.

Regards,
WW

True WW Solitude revitalizes our energies. I find a great happiness when I watch the nature in solitude. I do a kind of emptying mind and heart and refill it with new energy and love. Great news letter. Thanks for sharing.

I find that solitude can sometimes be found by reading a new writer's work and trying to absorb its meaning.
Zeke

You're absolutely right, Zeke. Solitude is a subjective thing. Not one size fits all. Thank you for your feedback. *Cool*

Solitude is such a blessing! and if you can escape to somewhere quiet for a little while, where you are surrounded or can contemplate something really old (mountains, ocean, moon, stars, river, lake, etc.) and think about how long it has been there and how long you are going to be here (not long!), it can relieve you of a lot of stress and "shoulds.

Thanks for the great newsletter and happy Thanksgiving! We need an "Attitude of gratitude!"

Vicki

Thank you, vicki! I agree, we are but a tiny speck in time. Taking advantage of all that nature has to offer is a real gift that should be appreciated and used to bring us closer to that spiritual respite. *Thumbsup*

Oh my goodness! You forgot to include one of the most important things! I know the story
was about YOUR replenishing spirit, but did he catch any fish? *Smile* We fly-fishers
gotta know!

         The Gospel BluesMan
"Rex and Jake were out on the lake at the crack of dawn. They cast for trout, sat
silently and kept still so they wouldn't frighten off the fish. Five hours later, Jake
shifted his feet. "What is it with you?" snapped Rex. "Make up your mind. Did
you come here to fish or to dance?"

*Laugh* Quite amusing, Bluesman! In fact, he didn't catch one fish. Hey, if the fish were biting, I would have been right there, pole in hand and casting like nobody's business! *Laugh* Great to hear from you!
