Valentine's Day may be in February, but I think this time of the year is the most romantic. What could be more romantic than sitting in front of a Christmas tree covered in white lights, a fire roaring beside you, and hot chocolate in you mugs, dressed in a cozy sweater and your arms wrapped around the one you love?
Ok, so that's an idealistic view of this time of the year. In reality, our Decembers are full of running around malls, arguments with family, wrapping paper littering our floor, and stress! At this point, the snow in much of the United States has already changed from romantic to annoying. Even if we daydream about fireside romance as snow gently falls outside, we rarely do it. We're too busy worrying about family feuds and the price of electronic gadgets to take the time.
Have you ever thought about what the holiday season is really for? While the scenerio I provided at the beginning of this newsletter may be the musings of a hopeless romantic, it shouldn't be too much to expect a little love in our lives this holiday season. A family gathering together for a meal. Little kids unwrapping presents under the tree, their faces lit up as the wrapping paper goes flying around them. A surprise necklace from your husband, delivered not in the exaggerated manner of a "every kiss begins with Kay" commercial, but instead handed to you on Christmas morning while the kids are eating cookies and watching TV. Let's leave the Nicholas Spark romances to Nicholas Spark and just enjoy what we have. Love is all around us. And, sometimes, that love is more pure, more enjoyable, than "romance."
And, sometimes, that love blooms into romance by spring.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in and shared their "perfect moments" with me! I always get such a great response when I spill my guts about my life.
i would just like to say thanks for giving me this newsletter. -Twisty
My most perfect moment, when looking back on it is what really broke my heart. It was perfect at the time though, which is what matters. I wrote a poem about it called Bug Spray and Cigarettes. -scribbler
Very nice article on those Special Moments. It made me think about how often times we can look back on old pictures, perhaps when you were newly in love and those moments had that magical special quality about them and we look to those memories with longing, even after ten years of marriage to that person. What we should be doing is looking for new ways to make fresh memories that are just as special. -jlbane
