Quotes
One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.
~Abraham Maslow
It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.
~Seneca
A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future. You must break out of your current comfort zone and become comfortable with the unfamiliar and the unknown.

Stepping Out
Stepping out of one's comfort zone is not easy. I've had to do this more than once lately. I almost backed out, but I didn't. And I'm glad of it because I feel a little stronger, a little braver, and I'm proud of myself for doing what I did. But I had a lot of anxiety over it.
Being the new kid on the block here at WDC can be a bit overwhelming at times. Surrounded by people you've never met, not knowing what to expect from reviews, and questions like: What if they don't like my writing? What if no one reads my stuff? What if... What if... What if????? Just know and be comforted by the fact many of us felt the same way when we first joined.
I'm not very good at poetry... I've never entered a contest... I could never write a mystery!" You will discover you can do much more than you ever imagined. By becoming involved at WDC, you will hopefully challenge yourself to step out of the box, try new genres, join a free workshop, and truly amaze yourself!
I've never reviewed anyone's work before. I'm not an editor. No need to worry. You aren't expected to pick through each and every typo someone makes. Just give your honest opinion about what you think, some technical suggestions, if you want, and point out what you liked about their piece. Many of us are here for encouraging critiquing. Not everyone, however, is after publication.
Are you looking for a forum that deals with something particular but can't find one? Start your own! I could never do that! you might be thinking. Oh, yes you can! Step out of that comfort zone and give it a whirl! If it doesn't work out the way you want it to, just delete it!
Challenge yourself this year. Dare to try something new. You will not only grow a little stronger, but feel good about your accomplishment.
I wish all of you the best of luck in your future endeavors with not only writing, but your wonderful experiences at Writing.com.
Have a wonderful week!!!
Keep on Writing!
Yours truly,

And Now For Our Featured Newbies!
Excerpt: “Your mother is still alive.”
He was joking. It had to be a joke. My mother had been dead for twenty years. She’d died when I was only six years old. It was impossible. But Dr. Chester Fleming was never the kind of person to make up such an incredibly stunning lie. He was a typically stoic, grey-haired country doctor who’d seen the worst things that life and death had to offer. He sat there on the plain brown couch in my tiny family room and dropped a bombshell on me.
Excerpt: She had sat patiently awaiting his return, her hearting beginning to shout and strain as each sickeningly silent moment had slid by. Until she could take it no more, she fled the room of her worry only to come upon this horrendous mess. She crashed down beside him, screaming for him to wake up, for her to wake up from the nightmare that was becoming her life.
Excerpt:
With little people the size of ants
And buses like my pinky
I want to flutter with the butterfly
Nestled between its wings
Excerpt: That first summer we started fresh, with everything before us laid out like an unwritten novel. I remember our long drawn out conversations, evenings on the makeshift couch that we had cobbled together from an old patio set and a multitude of mismatched cushions you had sewn together using a borrowed sewing machine. We had the world at are finger tips, but we were unable to fathom the boundaries of all that lay ahead of us.
Excerpt: From the corner of my eye I could see the man more clearly as he turned the porch light on. He had such a cold stare. The kind that would send chills down your spine if you were right in front of him. I shook my head and slammed the car door, slinging the bags over my shoulder.
Excerpt: Her hair was dyed black and she was bending down, adjusting her shoes. There was no way I could have recognised her. But I did. The violet sheen in the black? The shape of the head? I don't know what it was but my heart stopped. My stomach fell, a cold sweat burst on my forehead.
Excerpt: The only thing that mattered to me was living in the present and enjoying the moment. It was a perfect sunny, summer day -well as perfect as Indiana weather could possibly be- and the trip had been pleasant. As we drove up my Grandma Dottie’s gravel driveway I remember the feeling of excitement I got in the pit of my stomach about the adventures to that were to come. I would soon find out how that year would be the best year of my whole childhood existence.
Excerpt: I looked to that same tree now, just across the road from where i was gently pushing myself back and forth. it stood there menacingly, threatening to haunt my memories forever. Slowly, I stood up. I had to stop living in this nightmare. I had to cure myself before I truly lost my mind.
