About This Newsletter

We'll camp here a day or two," said Pa. "Maybe we'll stay here. There's good land, timber in the bottoms, plenty of game - everything a man could want. What do you say, Caroline?"

Letter from the editor

Action-adventure. When I hear those words the first thing that come to my mind are cowboys. Why is that? Probably because I grew up when Spaghetti Westerns were all the rage. Images of men on horses, vast landscapes and grandiose nature with just a few people in it waft through my head.

Of course, action-adventure is not reserved to cowboys and Indians. Many movies that carry the label Action Movie mostly happen in our time or even in the future. The beauty of the genre is that it pairs perfectly with almost any other genre. Can you imagine a romantic action-adventure? Sure, just read a book about a pirate who will criss-cross the seven seas to be reunited with his love.

I can think of many classics that fall under different genres, but all come together at action-adventure. I'm thinking of Tom Sawyer, Pipi Longstockings, Old Yeller, even the Little House on the Prairie saga. What do these all have in common? Action! In each book one or more people go through extreme experiences. Interestingly, all of the experiences involve animals and the outdoors.

In the highlights, find items that combine action-adventure and nature in many different ways.
