Reading a horror story, one that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the last page, is what every horror fan dreams of. Being scared, to the point that sleep is almost impossible, makes the read all the more worthwhile. Does that make us crazy? You bet!!!
My name is Darkin, and I’m your host this week for the Horror Newsletter.

Demon Children of Doom
The sound of children playing and laughing is a joy to hear. Any parent can tell you that having children is a blessing.
Then why is it there are so many books and movies that show children in an evil light?
I think it's because children are considered innocent and pure, and when you make them demonic it makes them even more scary than your standard zombie or vampire.
It makes them downright frightening.
Think about the last book your read, or movie you saw, where the killer or creature took the form of a child. I don't know about you, but to me, that turns my blood to ice.
Take for example the original Omen book (and movie). That child looked so innocent at first, but he sure didn't stay that way for long. Yeah, I know, seeing as his father was Satan you'd expect some demonic behavior. But seriously, do you think his parents were expecting that???
Another good example was The Good Son. I swear, that child made my skin crawl. He was so sweet and innocent around the adults, then BAM, he turned vicious when they weren't looking. Wait, that sounds like MY kids.
Where was I? Oh yeah, demon children are a fun horror vehicle to use, especially when your own kids are driving you up a wall. So, why not give them a starring role in your next horror story. I bet they'll be glad you did.
Thank you for taking the time to read. Happy Writing!

I have written two stories that feature zombies. "Invalid Item" and "Invalid Item" I have always loved zombie movies and wish there were more novels that featured zombies.

Darkin, thanks for including in your newsletter my non-fiction account of the zombie invasion of the last Writing.com Convention. It's important to warn people that this sort of thing can happen!

Great newsletter -- what about part II? You know, the apparent reality behind the myth is that a poison concoction has been discovered that numbs/destroys part of your brain, you seem to 'die' and are buried. Later your enemy who has paid the witchdoctor comes and digs you up and makes you work for him as a mindless slave...*shudders*

Great idea for a newsletter. I'll have to do a little research on the subject though, I don't know much about those kinds of zombies.

I have always found the denizen in the realm of the walking dead quite entertaining myself; certainly among my favorites. But I can't help wonder, what it would be like to create a new "type" of zombie. One that appears normal by day, and roams the country-side by night, feeding on hapless victims in an orgy of blood and entrails.
How scary would that be?

Pretty scary in my book!!!
