Reviewing as an Activity

When I became a regular Editor for the Contests & Activities Newsletter, I created a poll asking members for their favorite site activity ("What is your favorite activity?Open in new Window.). As you probably know, there is a limit to the number of options you can include in a poll, so I included what I thought to be the most popular activities. The response to my poll was overwhelming, but not in the way I expected. Most responses I've received asked the same question:

Why didn't you include Reviewing? It's my favorite site activity!

Let's take a look at Reviewing as an Activity.

Many of us review on a regular basis. Sometimes we're looking for something interesting to read, something to pass the time, and we happen upon a piece that strikes us. We're moved to submit our comments and thoughts to the author. Many members are part of groups which regularly review members. Others like to welcome new members to the Writing.Com community with a helpful review. The reasons are endless, but what most of us have in common (besides writing) is reviewing.

There are many rewards to Reviewing!

*Bullet* Better writing - It's undeniable. Reading and reviewing others' work helps us with our own writing. By looking critically at how a piece is put together, at what works and what doesn't, at writing devices utilized by other writers, we can help strengthen our own writing. What is the one thing successful writers most often say helps improve writing? Reading! Reviewing is adding another step to that - plus it helps out someone else. Bonus! *Wink*

*Bullet* Gift Points - Reviewing regularly will most likely attract a good deal of gift points through a number of ways:

*Check1* "Daily Review RewardsOpen in new Window. - gift points based on how many reviews are given in one day. Get those numbers up!

*Check1* "The Review MixerOpen in new Window. - gift points given for reviewing someone you haven't reviewed previously - Great way to meet new members!

*Check1* Auto-Rewards - many items on the site offer gift point rewards for reviews. Click on "Auto-Rewards" from the list at the top of each page to see items with auto-rewards.

*Bullet* Reviewing Credits - Many members keep an eye on the Public Review Page and reward reviews they think are helpful & encouraging. Make sure to check the "public" check box at the bottom of your review!

*Bullet* Credited/Active Reviewers List} - Click on "Reviewing" at the top right of your screen and above the public reviews, you'll see links to these lists. Review and watch your name rise higher on the lists!

*Bullet* Community Recognition - See that number in parenthesis after your name? That's called Community Recognition and reviewing will increase that number! You'll receive 1 recognition point per 100 reviews given!

So it's easy to see how Reviewing can be viewed as an activity, and why it's a favorite among so many members. There are so many benefits to reviewing!
