About This Newsletter

Drama is:

#1 - The Greek word for "action."

#2 - A real life situation or succession of events having the dramatic progression or emotional content of a play.

I'd thought I'd do something a little fun this time around and talk a little about a type of drama writing which is popular this time of year - holiday drama.

Letter from the editor

Drama is rooted in every day situations and real life. It's poginant, sad, happy, and meaningful. There's nothing more real or vibrant than the holiday season. By now we've all done a little "something" to put us the mood - listened to holiday music, started our holiday cards, went looking for a tree, or maybe even baked cookie. We might have even put off starting our Christmas routine because we're too busy. That's life. So much happens during this season. People are reunited or separated (going off to war), a scrooge leans the true meaning of Christmas, and true meaning of Hanukkah still touches us.

Most every holiday drama has a theme that we can identify with. In Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol," a hard nosed man leans the meaning of generosity. The holidays, more often than not, bring out the best in us. Sometimes though, life isn't so easy. Depression can hit hard during these times, especially if a family members has recently past away or is deployed to a war zone - but that's real life and real life is drama.

I choose to be upbeat about my Christmas drama. I find Dicken's story heartwarming. Themes in holiday drama usually include finding ourselves, fulfilling our calling, loyalty, and greed.

What theme in holiday drama touches your heartstrings? Write in and let us know.

The idea of a dream journal is a good one, if only I could remember my dreams! Thank you for highlighting "The Play's The Thing," and thank you too for more installments of War and Wine.

I agree - that's the challenge of dream journal. If anyone has tapped into a drama for a short story or poetry, write and let us know. Did you use a journal? Did you remember it?

I'm glad you're enjoying "War & Wine." It's been fun to put the play together. I'll probably work on another one next year for the newsletter. I might try to use a campfire format to get more people involved. Look for it around Feb or March.

Thanks for this newsletter, Steph *Smile* I have now added 'dream prompts' to my muse's arsenal. *Thumbsup*

Thanks. Let me know how it works for you and if you're able to "mine" some of those dreams for inspiration. I haven't tried the dream journal myself, but I've set one up and I'm waiting for a dream I can remember long enough to jot down. *Smile*
