*Flower2* How Do I Become a Preferred Author? *Flower2*

This is a big question for many Newbies, as it once was for me. *Smile* I've had enough members ask me this question that I feel it needs to be covered now and then.

Selection criteria that can be considered includes:

*Check4* Positive involvement within Writing.Com and its community
*Check4* Positive interaction with other members on Writing.Com
*Check4* Quality of items in portfolio
*Check4* A minimum of 50 quality reviews
*Check4* Reviews must be given to a mix of other members
*Check4* Must be 13 years of age or older
*Check4* At least 5 rateable items in portfolio
*Check4* Quantity and quality of their item ratings
*Check4* Accuracy of content ratings in author's portfolio
*Check4* Number of ratings given out to other authors
*Check4* Number of other authors who have been rated by member
*Check4* Has been a member for at least two months variety of items in portfolio
*Check4* Accuracy of personal and demographic account information
*Check4* Technical understanding of Writing.Com's site features

Promotions within the community are determined by a member's past performance and on site activity. Once a Preferred Author, you must follow the guidelines and rules or you could be relocated back to Registered Author.

*Cool* It is not cool to campaign for a promotion. *Cool*

You are much better off not pestering staff about become a Preferred Author as it could actually prevent it from happening. Your best bet is to interact positively within the community, be an active participant, and you will eventually stand out and be noticed.

A black or gray case may not nominate someone to be a Preferred Author or higher. If you do get a promotion, do not ask who nominated you. Many Preferred Authors were not nominated at all but promoted based on their positive activity within the community. *Bigsmile*

*Right* Don't hesitate to check out Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) near the bottom of your screen. There is a wealth of answers to the many questions Newbies have. *Rolleyes* And some of the other members, too, of course! *Bigsmile*

Have a great week!!!

Keep on Writing!

Yours truly,

What my son might do for his mother when he is older.
by YahsPoet Author Icon

Excerpt:
My pocket held a jingled tune
Of nickels, dimes, and pennies too
A banded notion with each step
Ensured that I would be there soon

Trouble Open in new Window. [13+]
Time for a little Ghost busting...
by ParadoxTremors Author Icon

Excerpt: The house was quiet, except for the sound of her bedroom door. It slowly swung open, its rusted hinges creaking. The low, rasping, grating breathing of the uninvited guest could be heard as it stepped across the threshold.

My Wall of Fear Open in new Window. [E]

Excerpt:
The book could tell them their future loves
But the book is held on high,
And even the children that wait to be born
Are written in ink that's dry.

by A Guest Visitor

Excerpt: "It's a cold night for July, isn't it?" It was more of a statement than a question, posed to no one in particular and simply serving the purpose of breaking the eerie silence that had sailed with them since they left the shore. Three men standing firm on the deck of a cramped motor boat, legs parted and hands clasped firmly behind their backs in the familiar stance of furtive unease. They were looking out over the calm sapphire waves, looking for something neither of them wanted to find and yet a prickling curiosity left them staring unblinking at the ominous horizon.

I had no idea this site was even here until the middle of Feb. and I happened upon it by chance in google search. What a great day thay was, it was the beginning of my life. I have wrote for many years but, not in the proper way or format.
And don't let anyone tell you you're too old to learn because, this grandmother has learned volumes of how to write the correct way, and it turns out to be good work. I still have a long way to go before I could ever hope to be published, not self-published. So that is why I'm so thankful that Writing.com is here, and allows " newbies " like myself to learn, and hone there skill if there is a skill. Thank you writing.com for everything, and to all groups that are here to help. I have found my long lost Home. Cissy

Wow, lots of us can certainly connect to that! *Bigsmile* Thank you for your wonderful feedback! Most of us will agree it is like a second home (and a first to many!). *Heart*
