 Welcome to the Noticing Newbies Newsletter! Our goal is to showcase some of our newest Writing.Com Authors and their items. From poetry and stories to creative polls and interactives, we'll bring you a wide variety of items to enjoy. We will also feature "how to" advice and items that will help to jump start the creation process on Writing.com.
We hope all members of the site will take the time to read, rate, review and welcome our new authors. By introducing ourselves, reviewing items and reaching out, we will not only make them feel at home within our community, we just might make new friends!

[I would have picked the first stanza, but since this is an E rated newsletter, I thought it best to pick this one instead.  ]
Excerpt: This is what I want, to stay home with my kids and change diapers, clean up messes, potty train, do laundry and dishes and cook, play and sing and tickle and laugh, watch my son figure out the mysteries of life and watch my daughter try everything for the first time....so why am I finding it so hard? Where has my energy and my motivation gone? Why do I get so frustrated and impatient?
Excerpt: Chane’s heart pounded in his ears. The hunter was coming back; he could feel his presence clawing at his skull, slashing his spine. He wanted to flee, but Tanniyn stood in his way. Jet-black hair framed emerald eyes that studied him with an intensity he had never felt before.
Excerpt: Continuing on 23rd street, John turned left onto Hegeway Park Road to make a quick stop for lunch. Steam poured out of the manholes in the road on his left as the rain now fell in legion, pelting the ground relentlessly. John remembered that in his youth he had believed a story the older kids told him that the steam was from a big sleeping dragon that lived underneath the city in a cave.
Excerpt: “I’m not against you. I merely think that if you can keep those blazing Christmas lights up for half the year then Jerry is entitled to paint his house pink.” I found it hard to reason with someone who over-reacts so obtusely and was extremely relieved when she stormed back to her house, muttering to herself about my objection to “a little fun”. So now she was angry that I did not share her taste in Christmas decorations as well as her taste in house colouring.
Excerpt: Ben knew when the messenger owl brought the letter from the wise old owl he was very sick because his mom and dad started crying right away. They hugged him so tight he could barely breathe and told him he needed to rest a lot. Ben hated not being able to run and play. He hated how nice everyone was being to him. It made him feel different and even a little bit scared. He wondered if his parents were telling him the truth. He wondered if he really would get better.
Excerpt: Her throat was tight as she pulled onto Nana’s street and saw her father’s car beside one she didn’t recognize. Snow danced around her rent-a-wreck, covering the last tips of the grass in the front yard. The house looked like a Christmas card. Red bricks glistened with snow and the porch was lit for Christmas with blue and white lights, too festive for such a sad occasion.
She approached slowly and stared at the door, her breath forming white puffs in front of her face. Should she knock or let herself in?

Will Writing.com be upgraded in the future as far as looks and features? Writing.com could receive donations and this could happen. Or how about a poll to see what everyone would like to see happen here in 2007?
Writing.com is continuously upgrading its site. I cannot believe all the improvements it has undergone in the past four years since I have been here. A poll? If there's not one already out there, perhaps you could create a poll yourself!  They are very simple to do and sometimes addicting.  If you need any help, let me know.

In response to your question of the month, I am a sucker for action and adventure! If a talented author can paint the action scene well in my mind, I am hooked!
That's a popular genre, for sure! And you are absolutely right about an author painting a scene in your mind. Those are the kind of writers I love to read!

What's my favorite genre? Fantasy, especially Christian fantasy. Same for writing; most of my ideas are fantasy material, and the vast majority are Christian.

You know what, Breezy-E? I don't think I've ever read Christian fantasy!  Could you email me some authors/titles please? (((HUGS))) I'll be sure to order a few for the library I work at. Christian fiction is in big demand there, and I'm always on the lookout for new authors.

My favorite genre used to be romance when I was newly married and the children were babies. Currently I'm working on a G-rated adventure story with romance at the end. I believe there is too much violence, sexual innuendo, etc., out there and I believe that I may be able to provide some good fiction that has nothing to do with negative stuff. What do you think?

I think that sounds wonderful!! Many readers are tiring of exactly the sort of things you have mentioned in your response. I know of many readers at my library who have turned to Christian fiction (Inspirational) for the same reasons.

Being offline for about three months, I've missed those special newsletters as everything else on this site.
As to the genre, I feel attracted to spiritual and emotional genres most but I see that whether writing or reading, our mood and experience affect our choice. And anyway good writing, in any genre, attracts all.

Great answer! Hey, where've you been, anyway? I always enjoy hearing from you! And you are so right... our mood and experiences do tend to affect our choices. And... good writing is good writing for sure. One example that comes to mind at this moment, is a book I brought home from the library for my hubby to read: Shadow Divers. It was about an unknown submarine that was found off the East Coast in the early 1990s. Believe me, I've never been interested in subs too much, BUT.... I ended up reading that WHOLE book myself and then purchasing the NOVA documentary, plus I bought the book on CD, all for the library! And after that, I ordered all the submarine books and movies I could get my hands on. And why? Because that book sucked me in, even though I was NOT interested in the subject matter. Yes, good writing in any genre attracts all.
