What are Guidelines?

Guidelines are a procedure or rules put in place to determine a course of action. Following set guidelines ensures a positive outcome for all involved.

Why should I follow guidelines?

Liken following guidelines for the various activities around Writing.Com to the rules either you set for your children, or that your parents set for you: If you failed to follow a rule, there were consequences. For example: If you came home late, you were grounded.

Same as here- if we fail to completely read the guidelines set forth for an activity, we likely will fail to follow them and could be disqualified from an activity.

A good example of the failure to read and follow guidelines:

I'll use the various official Writing.Com plug pages as a prime example. "The Shameless "Plug" PageOpen in new Window. allows for plugging of most items, but excludes Activities and Contests. Yet virtually every day, someone will plug one or more of those items on that page when it cleary states that "Activities @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. is the page to be used for Activities. "Writing Contests @ Writing.ComOpen in new Window. has its own page as well. The consequence of not following these guidelines? Your item(s) will be deleted resulting in less exposure for your activity. Another problem I often find is on the "Find a Review ForumOpen in new Window. This page is exclusively for Review Forums and not for items from authors seeking reviews. And finally, "Please ReviewOpen in new Window. allows for plugging of static items only. This does not include books, blogs, forums and etc.

It takes just a few minutes of your time to peruse the guidelines for any given contest/activity and etc. Those few minutes could mean the difference between a few people seeing your item or hundreds seeing your item and/or your qualification or disqualification from a contest and/or activity.

For more information all in one place, please keep "Writing.Com Official Plug Page RulesOpen in new Window. close at hand.

Questions about the plug pages?

Please see "Plug Page HelpOpen in new Window. In addition, you are always welcome to email a member of "The CleanersOpen in new Window..

We want everyone to fully enjoy their experience here at Writing.Com. And remember- Writing.Com is not just about writing- it's about reading as well! Write, Read and Review On!
