About This Newsletter

Life without action is static, and by necessity, it would therefore be dead. Action writing takes the normal and shares it for all to live vicriously.

Adventure is the spice: the exciting, adrenalin-pumping, thrill that makes one feel so alive. Everyone has an adventuresome spirit. Maybe dreams of excavating some long-lost treasure, visiting a new country, or trying a new flavour of potato chip. *Wink* Some of us prefer our adventures to come between the pages of a book, and many of us like to write that adventure.

Favourite Writing.com Action/Adventure Movie

Wow, what a process this has been. You could definitely say it was an adventure for me. I was quite unprepared for the ride of this task, the work and effort that goes into doing it.

Tip 1 ~ An adventure often includes unplanned side-effects.

I did have a lot of fun preparing all the surveys and polls needed. I enjoyed the even greater fun of reading everyone's wonderful comments, opinions, jokes...and complaints their favourite movie was not represented. *Wink*

Tip 2 ~ Action requires interaction between two things: person vs environment, person vs person, etc.

I was severely worried that my personal favourite was not going to make the short-list, and when it did the odds stacked up against it for a while. My favourite was looking to be outbid in the home stretch. In the end, my favourite did not win, but was placed well enough to soothe my ego. *Laugh*

Tip 3 ~ Action and Adventure should cause some emotional reaction in the reader, and you have many to choose from. Fear, anxiety, concern, joy, anger, triumph, sorrow, excitement...

And now, the results are in, the final poll has closed. The decision is made and neither you or I can amend it now.

Tip 4 ~ There should be some foreseeable conclusion to the adventure, even if it has a twist or surprise ending. The ending should satisfy the reader's knowledge of events - everything should now make sense.

And so, without anymore chin-wagging, frittering on, or side-stepping...I present the results.

Ask & Answer

*Leaf2* I must say my favourite Action/Adventure movie of all time has been and probably will continue to be Braveheart. It had everything. Epic battle, intrigue, love (which made it bearable for my hopeless romantic wife), and much more. I must say, Mel Gibson is an epic movie genius and has crafted many wondrous creations over the years. I like the new Bond movie too.

I agree, Braveheart is something of an icon and epic. I have not seen the new Bond movie yet, so don't spoil the story for me. *Wink**Laugh*

*Leaf2* The movie poll was great fun and I enjoyed watching the results. Thanks for putting this all together. You did a great job.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the voting process. *Delight*

*Leaf2* I really enjoy Action/Adventure genres stories. My personal favorite is the LOTR trilligy. These stories have everything involved to make it great. They have bravery and unwavering determination love and the ultamate struggle between good and evil. There's also a sense of innosense to it as well

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is my all-time favourite set of movies now, my most favourite being the second one. I have other films I absolutely love, but nothing in the sphere of LOTR. *Bigsmile* Thanks for the feedback.

*Leaf2* "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" gets my vote, and I noticed it did most others too. *Bigsmile*

Just loved taking the polls! Great newsletter! *Heart*

Just supposing that the Lord of the Rings series had not been produced, 'Curse of the Black Pearl' would then have to be my favourite. I just love the way Johnny Depp brings Jack Sparrow to us. *Smile*

*Leaf2* Truly saddening :( Two of my all-time favorite movies were in group #1. Likewise I had several favorites in groups 3 and 5, but none that I found particularly inspiring in groups 2 and 4. How strange is that!?

For the serials, had it been the books, it would have been Lord of the Rings for me, hands down. But since it's the movies, I couldn't, in good conscience, vote for LoTR.

Also, I'm honestly surprised that the original Star Wars did not make the cut while #5 (ESB) and #6 (RoTJ) did. I can only believe that it was due to the bad luck of the draw. (I was also very surprised and disheartened to see LOTR: Two Towers and Indiana Jones: temple of doom --> two of my biggest disappointments, still in the running)
ehrydberg

Well, each to his own. I LOVE The Two Towers as my all-time favourite. *Wink* There were definitely some surprises in the process, but that made it all the more enjoyable, I think. It also shows what a diverse population comprises Writing.com. *Smile*

*Leaf2* I have submitted my votes for all my favs, but I wonder if I chose wisely...
billwilcox

         *Laugh* Well, did ya? *Bigsmile*

*Leaf2* Wow! When it's down to the nitty gritty things really get tough! Good pairing and nice work!

But wasn't it fun?! *Wink* Thanks for the nice comments.

*Leaf2* I like those movies polls. Hope I can see more like them.
light

Sadly this ends the series of polls. Who knows, I might be inspired on another topic in the future...open to suggestions. *Wink*
