Life without action is static, and by necessity, it would therefore be dead. Action writing takes the normal and shares it for all to live vicriously.
Adventure is the spice: the exciting, adrenalin-pumping, thrill that makes one feel so alive. Everyone has an adventuresome spirit. Maybe dreams of excavating some long-lost treasure, visiting a new country, or trying a new flavour of potato chip. Some of us prefer our adventures to come between the pages of a book, and many of us like to write that adventure.

** Image ID #1092365 Unavailable **
** Favourite Action/Adventure Movie Serial or Trilogy **
Can we have a drum roll, with cymbals, sounding of horns and a stampede of pink flamingoes please........
The readers and pollers have made their choice. Six movies made it to the final deciding round for favourite serial/trilogy in the Action/Adventure genre. 80 people polled and this is their doing...
Sixth::: The Matrix Trilogy ~ 3 votes
Fifth::: X-Men Trilogy ~ 5 votes
Fourth::: Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy ~ 7 votes
Second Equal::: Star Wars series and Indiana Jones Trilogy tied ~ 18 votes apiece
First::: Lord of the Rings Trilogy ~ 29 votes
** Final Decider for Favourite Action/Adventure Movie **
[Linked Poll's access is restricted.]
Some of the margins were narrower than others, but all films in the final round were clear winners. The margin between Independence Day and The Matrix was the smallest, with The Matrix winning by a mere 3 votes.
Not all polls received the same number of votes. Poll One (The Matrix) received the most, with 133 votes. The least voted-on poll received 116 votes.
So readers, thank you for participating so far. Now let's all get in there and do one final vote. Your vote could be the one that tips the scales. I anticipate a close race.
Regards,
Puditat

Some of the delightful comments I have received. Sorry I could not feature everyone.
Impossible choices!
They are all excellent. Especially the letterbox versions. You could also include The Abyss, director's version. Incredible moral to that one.

There are many fabulous movies which never made it to the nomination round. I'm sorry one of your favourites was not represented.
Hi Puditat,
Batman Begins was the best movie out of all your choices. Closest to original Black Knight comic out of all Batman flicks.
Good polls. Enjoyed it.

Glad you had fun!
Poll One:
A toughie! I chose the Matrix because I LOVE that movie - that scene where they shoot up the office lobby is classic - a great piece of filmmaking ( actually whooped and hollered when I saw it in the theater), but The Incredibles came in a very, very close second! I'm a sucker for animated adventures!
I'm off to Poll #2!
AND
Poll Two:
Lord of the Rings! Hands down! Peter Jackson is a genius. The LOTR trilogy are three of the best films ever made, in my humble opinion. Plus, I love Viggo Mortensen! What can I say! He's a heartthrob - and then some!
I'm off to #3! How many of these do you have, anyway?!? You're gonna keep me busy all night!
AND
Poll Three:
I chose Saving Private Ryan because I think Steven Spielberg is a brilliant filmmaker and he brought that day to life in a heartwrenching way. But I feel bad about dissing my other dreamboat, Johnny Depp. He was also brilliant as Captain Jack Sparrow! Gotta love Johnny!
Off to the batcave....I mean #4! I'm having so much fun with these!
AND
Poll Five:
Lord of the Rings! That movie is simply spectacular - in every sense, especially the extended DVD version! But you had some great ones in this poll! I actually love all of these movies, except for Top Gun. I've never really been a Tom fan. His nose bothers me.
Whew! Marathon polling! I need a nap for my little digits, now!
All of these were great!
Thanks for polling!

You'll be glad a lot of your favourites made it to the final round then. I just enjoyed your feedback so very much on these polls that I just had to share the smiles (thought I think somehow I must have deleted Poll 4's feedback from you ).
This was almost as fun as watching the movies. I had a blast, sitting behind my computer screen, doing ennie, mennie, minie, mo, to decide lol. I couldn't choose between the classics I loved as a kid, to the newer epics. It wasn't fair to only choose one but all is fair in love and polls lol.
Poetic ~ Luck ~ Charm
Oh yes, the decisions are tough. I'm thrilled to hear how people have enjoyed the knock-out process.
This was fun, thanks for a great time. ^_^

You're very welcome!
I wonder if you can introduce somekind of 'correction' factor or allowance in the case of some of the polls (like this one). In some polls there is a clear winner (#3 & #5 at least at the time of writing this) and in some polls, like #1, most of the movies are quite close. This suggests to me an uneven division in popular movies amongst the polls. Since the goal of the overall survey is to determine the true winner, should not allowances be made for this factor?
Perhaps, this crucial round of polls could be repeated with rescrambled movies lists (say, next week, since you are now using polls and the answers are already tabulated). For this, since there are five movies in each of five lists, the movies from each list can be divided amonst the other lists (confusing?). Then the results from the two weeks could be averaged (or simply added) - and the top five go on. This would give a truly representative set for the 'final five'.

We did communicate via a number of emails on this issue, but thought it was worth answering in a public forum for those interested.
I did consider whether uneven results would occur. I was prepared to run a second series if movies were tied beyond the number of choices a single poll allows for. However, despite some movie results being close (in fact, only in Poll 1 did this occur), it still remains that a person must choose their single favourite from each list. The purpose is to decide on a single winner, so it just means the choice had to made earlier than the final round for some movies. I think the results are a fair representation of people's leanings.
I can speak about movies all day! Have you ever been to "Movie Talk" ? I forget.
Well, it was LOTR by a landslide, which is what I picked in this poll. That one, I think, is light years away from the rest.
Indiana Jones and the Patriot were also other good choices.

Yay, go LOTR. I'm a Kiwi and proud to be from the land LOTR was made in. |
