Letter from the editor

Hi everyone,

First of all, my apologies if I touch on a topic recently discussed in this Newsletter. I've been away from Writing.Com for a while, due to offline reasons, and I am still trying to catch up on everything! Today, though, I have the honour of being your guest Newsletter Editor. I hope you will enjoy my editorial.

I won't be telling you anything new when I say that we live in a busy world. We constantly run around, trying to be the most productive citizens we can be. There's work, the household, possibly kids, social obligations, the gym and whatever else our lives involve. Many of us live with a slight sense of guilt that whatever we do, it never seems enough. Society tells us we need to do more, achieve more, strive for more...

When we're actually at home, there's no peace and quiet either. Electronic sources like our tv, stereo, cd player, dvd player or computer will be producing sound and keep us hooked. Then there are the kids, if we have any, and all the house chores, our friends stopping by... I am sure you get the drift. There's never really time to just be still.

How many of us actually claim some alone time, to be at peace and just let our minds rest, whether we wish some time alone with our Lord or the Bible, or just try to relax without feeling the pressure that we must do something?

I know that I find it quite difficult. My mind is always busy, I have lots of lists with things to do, there's all too often people around who ask me to do things that aren't on my lists, and so it goes on... and my inspiration for writing of any kind has dwindled.

Until recently, when I was in bed with some virussy thing, I didn't realise how much I just needed to be still, to have my own space and calm down for a while, to be open to other thoughts than running my daily life.

It's not selfish to need some time to just be you. We all need to, even if it is for just fifteen minutes or half an hour a day. It can make such a difference, not only for your Spiritual life, but for your general wellbeing. And it can do wonders for your writing.

So my advice for you this week is – be still.

Editor's Picks

Because of being on a very tight deadline with this Newsletter, and not knowing what your regular Editors have recently plugged, I've decided to post some contests that might inspire you, for when you have a moment to be still *Smile*. I hope you will enjoy them!
