"Strike that! Turn it around ..." 1

Welcome to Writing.Com. You've been here, say what, less than six months. What have you been doing with yourself here? Where do you like to spend your time?

With more than 100K members and almost 25 years of positive growth in the writing community, WDC is the premier peer to peer writing site on the Net. Whether you found us by accident, or came at a friend's suggestion, you stayed long enough to become a member.

Do you have a favorite place on WDC? Have you made any acquaintances? Perhaps someone you feel might help you be a more productive writer?

The information I'm going to pass on has been included in past Noticing Newbies newsletters before. But it bears repeating. Over the course of even two weeks, WDC may see as many as 3000 new members, all wondering what is this place all about? Where do I go from here?

You will find that seasoned members are a very helpful lot. There are lots of Forums in which any member can post technical questions or ask about some writing technique.

For example, I recently came across an old forum that is not maintained regularly. But there's a good deal of information contained within the forum that may be of interest to Newbies and seasoned members alike. Check out "Newbie Help & Support Writer's HideawayOpen in new Window..

Are you a Senior? Check out "Senior Center ForumOpen in new Window..

Perhaps you write, or are interested in poetry. Find your way to "~ The Poet's Place Cafe~Open in new Window..

Maybe you're ready to enter one of our member-run contests. The following forum lists a number of current and seasonal contests: "Contest CluesOpen in new Window..

We have a very large reviewing contingent on WDC. Perhaps you'd like to review other members' works, while earning gift points, merit badges, and peer recognition. Here are a few reviewing groups that offer great incentives: "Anniversary ReviewsOpen in new Window., "Positive Hearts Review Forum Open in new Window., "Superpower Reviewers HUBOpen in new Window., and "Positive Hearts Reviews GroupOpen in new Window.. And there are many other similar groups.

Suffice it to say, we have a lot going on here at Writing.Com. All you have to do is dive in.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled:

*Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet* Don't Be Shy! Write Into This Newsletter! *Bullet* *Bullet* *Bullet*

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the NL Feedback for "Genres: Writing.Com StyleOpen in new Window.

From JCosmos Author Icon: Cool. I learned something new today about adding tags. I think I will do so and I might start looking at joining various message board communities.

         Go for it!

From : Hello Jace. I have been added as a fulltime Noticing Newbies editor.

Congratulations, and welcome, Annette. Have added you above.

From the Newsfeed:

From flash Author Icon: A better question is "There's really THAT many genres?"😱

         Yes there are. *Wink*

From S 🤦 Author Icon: Two (genres) I find easy to do, but the third is something I struggle with. I just wish some reviewers wouldn't harp on not having 3 genres filled in.

That seems odd to me that reviewers might comment on that aspect. Not every item I write needs that third genre listing.

From Elisa, Stik of Clubs Author Icon: I tend to max out all the genre listing opportunities.

From Jay O'Toole Author Icon: I consistently use three.

From Dad Author Icon: Three! Heavens to Murgatroyd, if I want people to read my scribbling, I need to give them a chance to find them!

It looks like most folks use three genres to help identify their item.

From Mousethyme Author Icon: One of the things that confuses me the most about writing is picking genres. I mean, I know my one novel is sci-fi/fantasy. That doesn't explain to me what the others are. I've tried looking up the genre guidelines but that just confused me even more. I just do the best I can and pick three because of the reasons Schnujo pointed out.

I don't use three if the third option does not really apply. No sense in trying to make the shoe fit if it doesn't.
