About This Newsletter

You never know what you can do until you try,
and very few try unless they have to."

White Cases

There's a lot of documentation on the site discussing the various portfolio colors and promotion levels available on the site. When you join the site, you begin as a *PortGray* Registered Member, and then depending on your contributions and site needs, it's possible to be promoted to:

         *PortBlack* Registered Author
         *PortYellow* Preferred Author
         *PortBlue* Moderator
         *PortPurple* Senior Moderator

And then of course there are the *PortRed* Staff who operate the site and keep everything running smoothly.

But in addition to those six case colors, there's one additional color that you might have seen from time to time:
*PortWhite* Memorialized Authors. These are members of the site who have passed away, and their white case indicates a few special characteristics, which include:

*Bullet* The white portfolio color.

*Bullet* The account is maintained at its current membership level indefinitely, with no further membership fees required (which allows the person's portfolio to be preserved in its entirety without reverting to a free account and its 10-item portfolio size limit).

*Bullet* The account is locked and logins and access to private areas of the account (like email) are no longer permitted.

*Bullet* All items are locked and cannot be edited or posted to, with the exception of Forum items.

*Bullet* Visible items set to allow ratings/reviews can still be rated and reviewed.

*Bullet* Other members can still post to the member's Notebook, but those posts do not appear in the Newsfeed.

*Bullet* If the member has a group succession plan in place, those groups will be transferred to other members in accordance with the deceased's wishes.

In order to properly memorialize a member who has passed, the site rules require a family member to contact the site and provide the deceased member's username and a copy of the death certificate. Additionally, iKïyå§ama Author Icon maintains the "White Case MemorialOpen in new Window., with information and featured items honoring those who have passed on.

The site has said goodbye to some truly remarkable authors and all-around great human beings over the years. Mostly recently, Bikerider Author Icon passed away a little over a month ago, just before Christmas. Those of us who knew him definitely miss his friendly demeanor and his flair for writing.

If preserving your legacy here on Writing.com is something that is important to you, I'd highly recommend checking out Transfer a Group To Another Member from Writing.Com 101 Open in new Window. about creating a group succession plan in the event of your passing, and consider letting your loved ones know how to contact the site and what they'll need in order to make the Memorialized Author status official. You can find that information (as well as much of the information I provided above) at: Request a Deceased Member Be Memorialized from Writing.Com 101 Open in new Window..

Until next time,
