All About Goals

Here it is, my last contests & activities newsletter of the year. As usual, I like to write about goals and aspirations for the new year. Take a look back and see what you accomplished this year. Did you try something new? Did you write things you're proud of? Did you learn something new?

Now take a look at that list and see what you'd like to add. Do you want to try writing in a new genre? How about entering the site contest? Writing.com always runs the "Dear Me: Official WDC ContestOpen in new Window. contest in January, so be prepared.

What are your goals for the upcoming year? How long will it take to achieve them? Plan a timeline to help keep yourself on track. Perhaps entering one contest a month will be your goal. Maybe trying your hand at poetry can be your goal. Having goals will help measure your progress, help you with time management skills, and give you feedback.

Keep writing!

This month's question: Did you set goals last year? Did you meet them? Send in your answer below! *Down* Editors love feedback!

Ask & Answer

Last month's "Contests & Activities Newsletter (November 20, 2024)Open in new Window. question: How do you manage holiday stress?

Adherennium - Maybe Writing? Author Icon: I largely ignore the holidays. Christmas day I'll go to church, Boxing Day (26th) I'll cook a family meal, and that's about it. Work is a matter of being organised and putting in a few extra evening baking to have enough to sell, time to enjoy some of my audible books.

Jay O'Toole Author Icon: Writing.Com, a cup of coffee, Christmas music, and sitting on the couch.

TheBusmanPoet Author Icon: I run people over with my bus. *Shock2**Rolling*

SandraLynnSprinkles Slingin' Author Icon: What stress? I anticipate the 4 Cs: cookies, chocolate, cake, and candy!

Elisa: Snowman Stik Author Icon: As someone who considers holiday stress to be good stress (eustress), I pack my schedule as much as I realistically can.

Frido von Lin Author Icon: I would do it like usual....w33d and isolation *Wink*

Helped me the most...in the past

Jo Paynter (Christmas Cheer) Author Icon: I ignore the commercial side of Christmas. I keep it simple and plan ahead. My Christmas shopping is nearly done already. I don't spend much on gifts; we don't need more "stuff!"

All that's left is just a few items to bake, put up the tree, cook Christmas dinner for immediate family, and that's it!

Poof! No sweat, no stress! *Laugh*

oldgreywolf on wheels Author Icon: I avoid the biped migrations form holiday to holiday.

Blessed Christmouse Author Icon: You can do that?
I try to stay organized but it doesn't help. I feel like I am on a deadline.

Humble Poet PNG Author Icon: Every day is a holiday when you're me. *Wink*

I don't usually give gifts specifically for Christmas or other birthdays. Instead, I just see things that make me think of a family member or friend as I shop throughout the year and, if I have the means, I buy it and give it right then. So that eliminates the stress of frenzied shopping.
Bren & I are usually invited to one or two Christmas dinners by family and/or friends each year and we oft attend. For holidays themselves, Bren & I are usually happily alone together. We cook a modest meal together and dine on same together. So, we actually don't have any major increase in stress at Christmastime.
We tend to view things like Black Friday and the popular rush to go into (or further into) debt to wow others with expensive gifts as darkly humourous. Yuletide shoppers are much like Keystone Cops with credit cards.
I'm a bit odd about everything, I guess. Christmastime is no exception. I
It's only stressful if you let it be. My birthday is Dec 25, so the fact it is lost in the shuffle decreases my stress markedly. I'll do a Christmas poem, and that will be that, I think. enjoy good but not necessarily expensive food year-round, and I leave my generosity on the table rather than in a closet --- or in a bank.
As for stress, we have more than enough of it throughout the year. So, our annual gift is that of peace and relaxation to ourselves.

Susie Author Icon: I may indulge in an Alcoholic Beverage (or six)

Santeven Quokklaus Author Icon: It's only stressful if you let it be. My birthday is Dec 25, so the fact it is lost in the shuffle decreases my stress markedly. I'll do a Christmas poem, and that will be that, I think.

tj-Merry Mischief Maker Author Icon: A nice glass of eggnog helps—if there's enough brandy in it.

HollisFrances Author Icon: Just enjoying family time.

jackson Author Icon: Don't have any.

amy-Finally writing a novel. Author Icon: I don't really feel stress during the Holidays. We don't really go anywhere.

Tannus Author Icon: I keep busy. I get bored easily, and that drives me nuts.

MayDay Author Icon: By not celebrating most holidays and leaving most of the preparing up to my parents. *Sly*

N.A Miller Author Icon: lots of soda and jack daniels.

keyisfake Author Icon: I love stress.

DS Author Icon: Holiday stress? What's that then?
