Letter from the editor

As writers, it can be challenging to create some balance in our lives in November. Well, [perhaps not for all writers, but for the ones who are participating in NaNo, it is. Beginning in October, it's all we seem to think about!

We all need some balance—well, maybe not you, but I do!!! So, if you're like me and need some tips on how to stay active and feel content, here we go!

*Type* Schedule writing sessions

When do you typically do your best writing? Morning, afternoon, or dead of night? Well, set aside time in your schedule to write. Schedule it like an appointment, and don't allow yourself to be interrupted during this time. You can also try writing in sprints, using a timer to write for a set amount of time, then taking a break.

*Beach* Take breaks

That's right, take a break! Step away from your computer to stretch, drink water, or go for a walk. Being outside can help clear your head and recharge your creativity. Trust me, you need a break.

*Target2* Stay accountable

Many of our fellow WdCers also participate in NaNo, so join a group and cheer each other on. When we have an accountability partner, we tend to stay on track.

*FingersCrossed* Set realistic goals

Aim for 2,500–3,000 words per day in the first week to build up a buffer for later weeks when you may find yourself struggling.

*Clock* Create a schedule

Life goes on all around us despite NaNo. We still have household chores to do, appointments to make, and families to care for. Whatever your situation, create a schedule that you can stick to.

*Raccoon* Pretend it's a fitness challenge

Try caring for yourself as if you were participating in a workout challenge. What do I mean by that? Remember to eat right, give yourself healthy snacks, and drink plenty of water. Instead of grabbing a quick shower, lounge in a bubble bath to rest your sore back.

Happy NaNo Everyone! You GOT this!
