"It begins with a character, usually, and once he stands up on his feet and begins to move, all I can do is trot along behind him with a paper and pencil trying to keep up long enough to put down what he says and does."
~ William Faulkner
"You take people, you put them on a journey, you give them peril, you find out who they really are."
~ Joss Whedon
"When writing a novel a writer should create living people; people not characters. A character is a caricature."
~ Ernest Hemingway, Death in the Afternoon
"Plot is no more than footprints left in the snow after your characters have run by on their way to incredible destinations."
~ Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing
"The characters in my novels are my own unrealized possibilities. That is why I am equally fond of them all and equally horrified by them. Each one has crossed a border that I myself have circumvented."
~ Milan Kundera

My dear writer,
I’ve noticed moments when you’re intensely typing on the computer or writing in your notebook. That’s great, it really is. I’m always happy to see you working. But, I have to be honest; it makes me sad, too.
You see, I am the protagonist of the story you started months ago and left unfinished. I can hear the paper whisper of promises and untold adventures. I really need your help. Well, we all do. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do next and my world is stuck in limbo as you work on other stories.
You probably thought no one would notice this unfinished story. Not too many people knew you were writing it, but you need to realize that your words create worlds, and now this world needs closure. My friends and I are counting on you to finish what you started. Don’t do it just for us, but for yourself as well. When you get this story finished, you will be proud of yourself. Moreover, I have faith in you. Just think of all the people who will read the story and fall in love with us. We deserve the chance to see this through, to tie up the loose ends, and get our happy ending.
Maybe you felt as though we weren’t fully cooperating with you, which prompted you to stop writing. I assure you; we are ready and willing to work with you to see this story come to its full potential. So, go grab that coffee, and let’s get back to work, shall we?
Signed,
your unfinished, lonely story |

Comments received for my last For Authors Newsletter - "Spell Check and Auto-correct" :
QueenOwl ~ A New Day Dawns said:
"Hi Lilli:
Thank you for the topic of this newsletter.
On Test your skills, I missed one, which is number 8. allusion instead of illusion.
Btw, I detest autocorrect and spellcheck with passion. Even when I have double-checked my spelling, they still come out different from what I intended them to be."
Congratulations! Only one wrong is great! I'm with you, autocorrect and spellcheck have caused me more miscommunications than I care to remember, lol. |
