Winning Every Seven Days
This is what happens when you time your presence, participation, and reviews.
Almost every contest and activity offers winners a merit badge or an award. These prizes are usually hard to get and sometimes they go dormant for a long time. Or forever. That makes is seemingly hard to earn a lot of merit badges. Or any at all.
Achievement Merit Badges are for everyone! But what are they?
These are the prizes that anyone can get simply for having an account on Writing.Com. To see all of the possible Achievement Merit badges follow these steps:
Left Side Bar My Account
under My Activity Achievements
There are nine badges that anyone can get by getting started here on Writing.Com. Getting Started Achievement Badges pile up with several "firsts."
Then, there are the four Consistency Achievements. These have the extra benefit that they can be earned an infinite amount of numbers -- as long as any of the things can be achieved seven days in a row. For every seven days of logging on in a row: BOOM merit badge.
Many members have acquired the three for logging on, posting in a forum, and posting on the Newsfeed. I've seen several people joke on the Newsfeed that they will never get the reviewing seven days in a row Achievement Merit Badge.
It's not that hard! Once a day, click on Read & Review in the left side bar. Click through until you find an item that you want to read and comment on. Do that seven days in a row. Cha-Ching! Two badges guaranteed (because this makes you log in seven days in a row automatically).
Finally, there are the Achievement Merit Badges for Years on the site, Reviewing, Forum Posts, Newsfeed Posts, giving Review Rewards, and even for sending Merit Badges! These last ones can also be earned several times, but they take more effort to get. This should not deter anyone to work toward these also.
How does all of this relate to Contests & Activities? It's literally all about Contests & Activities! Most contests make you write something. You can tell the community about it on the Newsfeed. Most contests are set up in the Forum item type, which means that submitting gets you a Forum Entry.
What about reviews?
The site is brimming with reviewing groups and activities. I haven't seen any rule that would make it so that you can't enter one review per day seven days in a row.
Have you collected all of the Achievement Merit Badges? |

Replies to my last Contests & Activities newsletter "That New Year Smell" that asked Tell me how you plan to finetune your writing in this brand new year.
SantaBee wrote: Fine tune my writing in 2024? I think for me, it helps to have a loose set of goals, because, honestly, real life always complicates my writing plans. I do plan on writing a Dear Me entry, because I love evading the Dust Bunnies, but after that, wish me luck. haha. Seriously, I hope to re=published some of my stories that got taken down when my publishers went out of business. I hope to re-edit some stories and re-publish them. I LOVE Writer's Digest, as they've always been a good resource and a place to start. Anyway, once I get my Dear Me entry done, I'll know a lot more where I'm going this year.
Nice outlook! You're going to be a busy bee.
Elisa: Snowman Stik wrote: I tend to not be either strictly optimistic or pessimistic in the new year. For me, the new year is more of a time for introspection to determine the direction in which I should go and what facet of my life I need to start/stop tweaking. This is why I can't stand applying SMART goals to New Year's resolutions. To me, they're more compass readings than to-do lists...
Which is why 2024 will not be a big writing year for me (aside from blogs/journals). The pull toward photography is getting stronger with each passing year, and I find that resisting the pull is souring my moods. So off to see if photography is in fact my north star.
SMART goals don't work for everything, that is true. They can be helpful in figuring out how far to pursue something.
Gaby wrote: I definitely plan on using your "I Write in 2024" forum to fine tune my writing and, hopefully, expand it. I hear that crack of a whip when it's crunch time and I'm behind. It's quite helpful!
Nice! I like to read that! |
