From September 1st through September 15th, the annual Masquerade Party hits the stage again for its 11th round of murder and mayhem. Written and directed by our very own Tornado Dodger , this birthday week staple is a fast-paced, red-herring adventure. The best part? There's still time for you to join in as a guest - you get to choose your own alter-ego (check the rules for signing up as a guest). Remember, it only happens once a year!
The story is written in daily installments by your troupe of 'suspects'.
Your job is to figure out whodunnit by getting involved!
Sleuthing doesn't just take place in the "official" storyline. It evolves through the conversations taking place in the guest forum. Both guests and players will pop in and out, adding to the narrative, and frequently winding its way into the official canon. While there are prizes for figuring out whodunnit, there are also prizes for demonstrating creativity in the guest forum.
Like any good murder mystery, your job is to follow the official storyline and figure out who did it and why. While the guest forum can get fast and furious, it's a ton of fun. However, don't feel pressured to keep up with every guest post or take part in every conversation. While you should follow some and participate, your guess at the perpetrator will be informed by the official suspect narrative, which is self-contained in the Suspect Journal.
There have been mysteries on a train. We've traveled to space (with Elon Musk, no less). We've been by boat, stayed in a hotel, and vacationed on an island. We've engaged the Holy Spirit, and have been sidetracked by an AI with memory problems (twice). You never know where we'll be or who might drop in unexpectedly. Although, it wouldn't be a murder mystery if Charlie Sheen and Nicolas Cage didn't make an appearance.
This year's Masquerade is another wild adventure, taking its unique blend of mystery and comedy to The National Art Gallery of Canada. The suspects are already snowed in, but who's to say someone won't show up "The Day After Tomorrow" style? The annual masquerade is a well-loved format, with many returning guests and a well-known cast of characters who have demonstrated a cohesive storyline time and again. It's a well-structured story (with a little mayhem thrown in for good measure), and it's perfect for first-timers or those looking to rejoin the fun.
