This newsletter for the month of February is going to be in the cozy theme with some broken hearts, poisoned chocolates and murder all scattered throughout for good measure. Valentine's day is on the 14th of the month and with it, we can peruse through the oh, so popular cozy Valentine mysteries that really get our blood going. Valentine cozy mysteries are not as popular as the Christmas or Thanksgiving cozy mysteries but they still warrant a looksie before deciding against them.
I usually like the tried and true mystery authors like Agatha Christie or Truman Capote but there are many diamonds to be discovered and shared. So with that, we'll move on to the February newsletter. |

The month of February is nearly here and with it brings much snow and bitter cold but it's my favorite month for many reasons. As I sit at my desk, rewriting this newsletter that did not upload and I had no other copy, I had to try to remember my mood as I wrote it earlier in the evening. I think when this happened, I was supposed to "flip out", or cry possibly, but I just remained calm. Had this happened to me at a different time in my life, different year in my life, I would have lost my sense of decorum. I've got Irish blood, married to an Irish man, talks are animated here but not this time. I just started thinking about how to ensure this type of mishap doesn't happen the next time. Copy, copy, copy all of it, in another file, before sending final draft to make sure this does not repeat. Okay, so I've talked enough about that but the authors I have chosen are a solid bunch of writers. They are skilled in this genre and I think you will be pleasantly surprised this month. Without further adieu, there are ten authors this month again. The first one I think you will enjoy.
The first author for this month is writer M.C.Beaton with their book titled, "Death of a Valentine", there is amazing news has spread across the Scottish countryside. The most famous of highland bachelors, police sergeant Hamish Macbeth, may actually marry at last. The entire village of Lochdubh adores Macbeth's bride-to-be. Josie McSween is Hamish's new constable, and she is a pretty little thing, with glossy brown hair and big brown eyes.
The local folk think that Josie is quite a catch, but Hamish couldn't be more miserable. The wedding wouldn't be happening if it weren't for the murder of a beautiful woman in a nearby village. After the gorgeous woman receives a deadly Valentine's Day gift, Hamish and Josie take on the case. However, they soon discover that the list of the victim's admirers is endless.Death of a Valentine (Hamish Macbeth Mysteries Book 25): ($7.99 from Amazon.Com)
The second author for the month is from writer Ethan Black titled, "The Broken Hearts Club", it's the story of men who have been dumped by their girlfriends. They meet every week in the dingy back room of a bar in New York City. An informal group of men with one thing in common: They all suffer the sting of a broken heart. But soon the anger turns to hate. The rejection turns to rage. And the Broken Hearts Club spins violently out of control--exploding into murderous acts of vengeance.
Detective Voort is assigned the case, determined to catch an elusive killer who is always one death ahead . . . who appears to switch identities with each new victim . . . and who knows how to cover his tracks with cold efficiency. Then Voort falls victim to his own broken heart, as his ex-girlfriend unknowingly becomes the target of a frightening new breed of serial terror. This is reading like my type of cozy mystery. The Broken Hearts Club (Conrad Voort Novels): (Available at Amazon.Com)
The third book for the month is from author Rita Mae Brown, "Claws and Effect: A Mrs Murphy Mystery", Here is another cozy murder mystery set around Valentine’s Day. It is the 9th book in the Mrs. Murphy series, published in 2002. I found it a relatively ‘brainy’ novel for a love mystery theme, however it was a fun read. Btw if you love reading cat mysteries, this one is a great addition to the sub-genre. These books, mystery or not, where the main characters are animals are hilarious and clever so I hope you enjoy this one, as much as I have!
The fourth book for the month is from author Janet Evanovich titled, "Plum Lovin", a shorter novella here Stephanie agrees to play cupid for a match maker who has problems with one of her difficult clients. Because it’s a novella, it is a quick read that can be devoured in less than 2 hours if you’re a relatively fast read. That sounds like it's right up my alley.Plum Lovin': A Stephanie Plum Between the Numbers Novel (A Between the Numbers Novel Book 2): ($12.99 from Amazon.Com)
The fifth book for the month is from author Susan Wittig Albert titled, "Love Lies Bleeding", a China Bayles mystery book 6, Ex-lawyer and herb-shop proprietor China Bayles is investigating the mystery of retired Texas Ranger shot dead with his wife's gun...and at the same time trying to sort out some mysteries about her own relationship after she overhears a suspicious phone conversation. Definitely got to read this one for sure! It seems like the type of mystery I would enjoy and I think my readers will too.Love Lies Bleeding (China Bayles Book 6): ($7.99 from Amazon.Com)
The sixth book for the month is from author Ellery Adams titled, "Murder in the Paperback Parlor - the book retreat mysteries book 2", with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Jane Steward is organizing a week of activities for fans of love stories at her book-themed resort. But her Regency readers barely have time to brush up on their Jane Austen before tragedy strikes Storyton Hall. Rosamund York, one of the most celebrated authors in attendance, is killed.
Rosamund had as many enemies as she did admirers, including envious fellow novelists, a jealous former lover, and dozens of angry fans. It’s up to Jane, with the help of her book club, the Cover Girls, to catalogue the list of suspects and find a heartless killer quickly—before the murderer writes someone else off.Murder in the Paperback Parlor (The Book Retreat Mysteries 2): ($5.99 from Amazon.Com)
The seventh book for the month is from author Ruth Dudley Edwards titled, "The Saint Valentine's Day Murders: A Robert Amiss/Baroness Jack Troutback Mystery book 2", with the malice, envy and anger that burgeons among the filing cabinets is first expressed in pettiness and then in unpleasant practical jokes. Then it escalates and finally culminates in callous murder by means of boxes of poisoned chocolates sent to the bureaucrats' wives.
With the help of Ellis Pooley, a young detective obsessed with fictional sleuths, Amiss and his friend, Superintendent Milton, search for motives in an office where marital discord and broken dreams might drive anyone to murder. The Saint Valentine's Day Murders: A Robert Amiss/Baronness Jack Troutback Mystery (Robert Amiss/Baroness Jack Troutbeck Mysteries Book 2): ($10.99 from Amazon.Com)
The eighth book for the month is from author Jeffrey Marks titled, "The Scent of Murder", a dizzying romp where the question is who is the killer? That's the question Marissa found herself trying to answer when the bloody body of the woman who stole her husband was found lying over her desk. Can Marissa keep herself from being charged with murder? That's the second question she needed to find an answer for--and fast.
An ailing child, an incompetent boss, an ex-husband in mourning for his lost love, and a pushy boyfriend add to Marissa's problems, making a complex situation seem almost chaotic. In her search for answers, Marissa learns people aren't what they seem, particularly the dead woman. The Scent of Murder (Marissa Scott mysteries Book 1): ($2.99 from Amazon.Com)
The ninth book for the month is from author JoAnn Carl titled, "The Chocolate Cupid Killings", It's Valentine's Day at TenHuis Chocolade, but Lee is getting no love from detective Derrick Valentine. He's looking for one of their new employees-an abused woman who Lee and her Aunt Nettie have been hiding. But when Valentine meets his own sticky end, it's Aunt Nettie who is suspect. Now, Lee has to free Nettie of guilt without exposing their innocent guest-and find a killer with a heart that's definitely not made of chocolate. The Chocolate Cupid Killings: A Chocoholic Mystery: ($6.99 from Amazon.Com)
The tenth book for the month is from author Kathi Daley titled, "Cupid's Curse: A Zoe Donovan mystery book 4", it appears when Cupid comes to town it seems everyone’s relationship is in for a challenge. Not only does Zoe suspect that her dad’s new girlfriend is really a killer, but Zoe is the only one who believes that her soon-to- be evil stepmom is guilty of such a dastardly deed. Add that to the fact that Zak clearly has a secret, Jeremy’s baby mama is making his life as miserable as her pregnancy is making hers, Levi’s girlfriend Barbie is on a rampage, and Ellie is caught in a brotherly love triangle, and you have a Valentine’s Day disaster in the making. When Zoe finds not one but two dead bodies all bets are off as she works with her friends to uncover the truth before someone she loves falls victim to Cupid's Curse.Cupids Curse (Zoe Donovan Mystery Book 4): (Available at Amazon.Com)
