It's A Good Day To Have A Good Day

What makes a day "good"? I have been reflecting on this after a day that felt like it qualified as good, but it was by no means perfect. Besides, perfect is a fantasy and a highly overrated one at that.

We went for an all-day ride on the Harley today, up in the Rocky Mountains. It was a beautiful day, with mild temperatures for August. It was pretty much my idea of perfect riding weather, if you don't count that hail storm we hit as we went over Wilkerson Pass. I was thankful for my full-face helmet. At highway speeds, hail hurts like...well, like hail.

We stopped for a bite to eat at our favorite Japanese fast food restaurant once we got back to the city. After getting off of the motorcycle, I took off my helmet.

I asked my husband, "On a scale of one to ten, how crazy is my hair?"

I have some out-of-control hair most days. It is curly, and chaos lives in those curls. Even if I straighten it, it still manages to be unruly. Wearing a helmet and having nice hair are mutually exclusive anyway.

He took a look at me thoughtfully and replied, "A seven."

I immediately perked up. "So, my usual amount of crazy, then!"

He nodded and laughed.

We went into the restaurant and placed our order at the counter. The next stop was the soda fountain to get our self-serve drinks. One of the soda spigots had a neatly printed sign where the brand of drink would normally be displayed.

My husband pointed to the out-of-order spigot and said, "I wonder what that one tastes like?"

"Disappointment," I answered, without thinking.

He laughed. Then we laughed together all the way to our favorite table. Why is this significant? Well, I rarely make my husband laugh, on purpose or accidentally.

I did cover this in a past newsletter if you want to check it out: "I Crack Myself UpOpen in new Window..

This was indeed turning into a good day. I was even willing to overlook the earlier incident at the convenience store where my husband had managed to spill his coffee drink on me and then knock mine to the concrete, shattering the glass container. I had made him laugh twice in one day! So what if I had coffee on my butt of my jeans, wild helmet hair, and just went through a hail storm on a motorcycle? This was a good day.
