About This Newsletter

This little light of mine,
I'm going to let it shine!

This song, which I learned in childhood, has been running through my mind all week. It started as a dream, and has continued off and on every day. It begins when I am depressed, brightens my mood, and continues until I am smiling.

Letter from the editor

All of us have a light within, which we need to share with other people by letting it shine. You can call this light whatever you want. Some of us call it soul, some creativity, some talent, and some joy. Its name does not matter; what matters is that we share it with the world. If we attempt to hide it under a bushel of depression or fear, it will make us and everyone around us miserable.

Are you letting your light shine by sharing talent or helping others? One way we can let our lights shine is to perform a random act of kindness. This can be something as simple as washing the dishes or mowing the lawn of an elderly neighbor or friend. If you have not heard from someone in a while, give them a call to see how they are doing. If you are good at baking or cooking, make something good for someone special. If you are going the visit, call before you go because the person may want to know if someone is coming to visit.

At present, the world around us appears dark, without much hope. It is times like this that we need to share our light through random acts of kindness. Send flowers or a card to someone lonely. If you are not wearing a mask, smile. If a friend wants to talk, listen without giving advice. When a person is down, they normally want to talk rather than getting advice. If a person asks what you think, attempt to encourage without giving advice. Most people just need someone to talk to who is not judgemental.

Brighten the world
by letting the light of kindness
shine through you.
