Letter from the editor

Many newsletters have been written about the various levels of membership and the features of each level. You can compare these features using "Compare Free and Paid Membership BenefitsOpen in new Window..

Many, if not most of you signed up under a Free membership. Maybe you joined on a friend's suggestion. Or, you searched the Internet for writing sites and WDC came up. However you found this site, I suspect most of you are using the entry level to decide whether you like the site, and what features you need to assist your writing journey.

I joined WDC in May 2008 as a free member, upgrading within a month to a level I've held since. Consider this: the annual cost of the Basic, Upgraded and Premium memberships have not increased since that time. And the cost of the annual Premium Plus has actually decreased. Paid memberships definitely offer great value. So, what do you get for your money?

Let's check out some of the feature categories in the membership comparison chart.

*Bullet* PORTFOLIO: Every member has a Portfolio to store one's items. The difference is the total number of items a member can maintain, from 10 for a Free member to 2000 for a Premium Plus level.

*Bullet* ITEMS: While every member can create and maintain static items, the size of those static items and the type of items in general (including Book, Group, Message Forum and Image items) is based on the higher membership levels.

*Bullet* AUTHOR TOOLS: This includes Notepad pages, use of the Review Tool, and editing features such as Edit Points and Full Screen editing.

*Bullet* EMAIL: All members get an Email address and service. But a member's ability to organize emails using folders, as well as the number and size of emails in general is limited to upper level memberships.

*Bullet* COMMUNICATION: All members may post in Message Forums and use Instant Messaging (IM). But IM times are much slower with lover memberships.

*Bullet* SURFING WDC: WDC uses graphic adds to help support the online platform with the Free level sporting the heaviest ad use. Upgraded and above have no ads. Additionally, the two higher levels can use Custom Links. This allows these members to store favorite items, a real time saving tool.

*Bullet* STANDING OUT: Higher memberships allow for bold handles and full time costumicons enabling members to stand out.

*Bullet* COMMUNITY INTERACTION: All members have the ability to receive feedback from other members; to receive and give gift points; and to rate and review items, and receive the same. But only paid members may enter the official WDC contests.

Take stock of your writing goals for the coming year. Can you achieve them from your current membership level? Maybe now's the time to upgrade. Best of luck on your writing journey.

Ask & Answer

Thanks for spending time with me today. At the bottom of every newsletter is a section entitled

followed by a text box. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.

From the Newsfeed:

From bryanmchunter }: Do interactive stories count? Because I contribute to interactive stories by adding new chapters.

Yes. As NaNoNette Author Iconsays, "I think they count because they make you interact with other people here on the site."

From s Author Icon: I offer my alleged thoughts to Lilli 🧿 ☕ Author Icon's Question of the Day forum. I tend to respond to about a third of newsfeeds I see. If I can help someone's writing when they ask a question, I try. I don't review a huge amount. I am not a fan of contests. So... a little but probably not enough.

The way I see it whether a little or a lot, everything helps.

From Monty Author Icon: I am the leader of "SENIOR CENTER FORUMOpen in new Window. and "HONORING OUR VETERANS Open in new Window.. I have won MBs for over a year of reviewing and subscribe to 3 News Letters.

Both are venerable forums. Your continued support of WDC, Monty, is both welcome and inspirational.

From Dave Author Icon }: Yes. Aside from running "The Poet's Place Open in new Window. group, I contribute my two cents to the daily "EXPRESS IT IN EIGHT Open in new Window., Community Newsfeed discussions, and enter several contests each month.

We all benefit from your presence.
