About This Newsletter

"I decided that it was not wisdom that enabled poets to write their poetry, but a kind of instinct or inspiration, such as you find in seers and prophets who deliver all their sublime messages without knowing in the least what they mean."

Socrates

"Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before."

Audre Lorde

October Holiday Challenge in Poetry Form

Did you know (according to http://www.holidays-and-observances.com/october-holidays.html) there are almost 200 different October holidays and observances? Boggled my mind, too.

Halloween or Samhain are the usual go-to holiday inspirations for this time of year, but I challenge you to expand to some other inspirations. Use the link above or find another you like and look through the various October holidays and observances and see what speaks to you and write a poem—either about an experience related to it or the observance/holiday itself—whatever carves your pumpkin.

See below for a poetry form to get you started or use another.

Trilonnet Poetry Form

This is a newer poetry form that was invented by poet Shelley A. Cephas.

--Rhyme is a choice of the following formats: ABC ABC ABC ABC DD or ABC CBA ABC CBA DD

COULD HAVES or WHAT IS THE POET’S CHOICE IN ALL THIS?

--Number of stanzas: Your choice.

She came to Life Dizdain

On that September date, she came to life
I will always remember on that date
in late October, she became my wife.
I often recall that I met my fate
I looked at her with such love, became her mate.

When I met her, it was love at first sight
she filled my heart with her love and her might.
for you see I had met her in my dreams
filling my Soul l with her morning love light
she filled my heart with love, making it great.

Author note: I met my wife in a dream. Dream of her for eight years. Then 39 years ago she walked off a bus and into my life becoming my wife two months later. For details, see my blog, Https://theworldaccordingtocosmos.com
