Ready?
WDC has some important and fun contests and activities coming up. I know we just finished all the site birthday fun and there's more! Are you ready? In October, many of our members are prepping for the NaNoWriMo. If you're not familiar, check out the groups and activities that participate in the challenge. The challenge website is here: https://www.nanowrimo.org
Further, October is horror and scary month! Be ready for some ghoulish contests and spooky activities. You might also have some hauntings on your page from the Messenger ghosties. (They're fun but you can turn them off if you like.) Be sure to look over your character and scene developments and have them ready to go!
Another thing to remember, is that while many members are busy writing their books, you can write something fabulous and submit it to a contest. It's likely there will be less contestants and your work will stand out. If you're hosting a contest or activity, remember the NaNoWriMo-ists may not have time or energy to enter until their novel is complete.
Get ready and Write / Host On!
This month's question: Are you scheduling time for activities outside NaNoWriMo? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback! |
Excerpt: The Prep is a month-long, community-oriented challenge that takes place every October, designed to help you plan a novel prior to writing it. The Prep was created to coincide with NaNoWriMo, but it can be used to prep any novel project. You don't even have to have a novel idea to participate! Your first assignment, on Oct. 1st, is to come up with an idea, and we provide you with brainstorming tools, plot generators, and a whole community of other novelists to help you along.
Excerpt: Each day around 12pm NOON WDC time, one of our dedicated volunteer judges will judge the previous day's entries and post a new writing prompt. Entries for each new prompt must be posted by 11:59am WDC time the next day. Entries that follow ALL of the prompt requirements will be judged according to the creativity in responding to the writing prompt only. This means that grammatical errors WILL NOT be a determining factor in deciding the winner!
A monthly contest, check it out!
Excerpt: Thrice Prompted in a continuous activity to inspire you to write stories. For every 3 stories you write using the prompts, you win a merit badge! but it is up to you to keep a record of all things you write for this... You must email me with the item numbers for verification before merit badges will be given. There are no deadlines in this activity. This means you can take as long as you like to produce a story. We aren't judging you compared to others, either. This activity simply rewards you for writing!
Excerpt: Please, none of that he/she said, no "background"-- just dialogue! Hence the name! Write like people speak. Use contractions. Flavor with accents. Branch out. When writing dialogue, anything goes. Throw out all the rules of grammar you've been brainwashed with, write like people talk!
Excerpt: Authors on Writing.Com are looking for good, useful feedback... and of course, exposure within Writing.Com. You can do a good deed by reviewing any qualifying item* on Writing.Com and you might win! Enter as many times as you want to increase your odds of being selected as a prize winner!
Excerpt: Remember, reviewing will help not only the person receiving the review but also the person sending it. In critically examining the works of other authors, reviewers gain insight into their own writing and an ability to look at it objectively with a critical eye.

Excerpt: In honor of the National Trinket Month celebration, I have decided to create a brand new trinket to share with everyone. But the big question is, out of all the many, many possible options, what kind of trinket should I make?
Excerpt: This isn't a contest, but rather, a place to share your poetic expressions!
As you are inspired, add an 8 line, titled poem to this collection.
Excerpt: If you enjoy celebrating things, this forum is for you! We celebrate member’s Anniversary’s year round in this forum by sending them a review during their Anniversary month! Help members celebrate another year of membership by sending them Anniversary Reviews.

This month's question: Are you scheduling time for activities outside NaNoWriMo? Send in your answer below! Editors love feedback!
"Contests & Activities Newsletter (September 1, 2021)" 's question: Do you find yourself more active in WDC after summer? What are you doing?
Patrece ~ : I am always much busier during the nicer months here in the US. Thus, having less time on WDC in general. But I often think of my friends here and look forward to getting more involved, once again, the I can't enjoy being outdoors any longer or my garden begins to make it clear that fall is absolutely in the air. But until being outdoors for different jobs in the yard or just enjoying the warmer weather forces me back indoors, I try not to commit to too much on WDC. It's all about a manageable balance!
dogpack saving 4premium : The seasons matter not because I have a homestead that is keeping me busy. WDC and I get together as much as possible. Some days I am able to spend a lot of time being active and working on WDC activities and projects. Other days I hardly am able to log in and read a little bit of email. Most of the time no matter what the season is I do my best to be as active on WDC.
Annette : I actually end up less active after summer. I have gone back to college. The beginning of September means I am pulling tripple duty. I work for 30 hours a week. I attend college for 12 units, which can easily translate to 15-25 hours of studying, traveling, doing, etc. And I also have a five-people family. My husband commutes to another country, so I am in charge of shopping, making sure the 3 sons get to work, school, other places, get everyone egged on to do their part in the household ... After all of that, I can spend time on Writing.Com. Because I am usually tired, I end up hanging out on the newsfeed instead of writing. So, I really end up doing less on Writing.Com after summer. However, this year I want to change up WHAT I do here on the site. I started this group: "Invalid Item" and will spend most of my time there in a few days. Writers should write and review, not just socialize in pointless games. Although games are fun, but that can't be all that I do here.
Thank you for the replies, they are much appreciated!
