Earning Those Gift Points
Would you like to earn 30,000 gift points this month? Part of what helps our community to continue on as strong as it is, is because of member participation. Participating a couple days a week can really fill your gift point bank and at the same time, help other members.
Now 30,000 isn't a number written in stone. I just calculated a few sources and that's the number I found. One of the sources is "Weekly Goals" . Stop in on Monday and Friday with your goals and successes, and earn 1000 gift points each week. While you're online, open the Messenger console and keep an eye on the games. Even if you get third place on two games a day, you can pull in at least 3600 gift points for solving puzzles.
Suppose you send two (at least 250 character) reviews a week. You and the review recipient will get gift points from "The Review Mixer" the base reward is 50 gift points times a random multiplier between one and seven. On top of that you'll get points from "Daily Review Rewards" . If you choose an item to review from the Auto-Reward Item list (Left column > Community > Auto-Reward Items) you'll earn a few more gift points there. On top of that, click the "Good Deeds Get CASH!" button at the end of your review to get your name in a drawing for cash (or opt for a gift card or gift points). You can also find items to review at "Please Review"
Now let's really bring in the bank. Enter some daily contests like "The Writer's Cramp" where the daily prize is 10,000 gift points. Or stop in "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge" and earn 1500 gift points with a win. Enter this month's site contest and really earn a pile of gift points with a win. This month's contest is "Quotation Inspiration: Official Contest" . Now, let's look at "Writing Contests @ Writing.Com" and see what prompts member contests have out there. There's another possible source.
All in all, participation in our community will bring in gift points to use for things like memberships and contest prizes. Get out there and Write/Review On!

Excerpt: Leah Clearwater wrinkled her nose at the foul, bleach-like stench of vampires. Sometimes it sucked to have a werewolf's keen sense of smell. Holding her breath, she stepped deeper into the antebellum farmhouse. Even if she couldn’t smell them, she would have known this was the Cullens’ home in New Hampshire from the tastefully arranged antique furniture around the living room. The place reeked of Esme’s maternal touch.
“Hello?” she called out. “Anyone here?”
Excerpt: The king had always fancied himself as the best looking in the kingdom. Of course, he was wrong, but that didn’t prevent the other nobles from kissing his butt when they kissed his ring. Pierre wasn’t about to do that. Oh, he might kiss the king’s ring. That was the protocol. He hadn’t become a duke by being foolish. The king could take away his title on a passing whim. Pierre planned on keeping his title
Excerpt: It was never quiet here, but as the Queen observed her troops, the orange glow from the streetlamp overhead glinting off their inky black surface, she supposed this was as close as it would get.
Excerpt: It was a hideous reflection staring back at me. From the misshapen eyes and crooked nose to the quivering lips, there was no beauty to be found. I was once again filled with anger that I had been cursed for some unknown reason. All my life I had pleaded with some deity to bless me with a normal face. I wasn't greedy. I never asked to be a raving beauty. I wanted only to not stand out for the grotesque image I had come to loathe

Excerpt: As soon as I saw the baseball bat that stood propped against a Flexible Flyer in Murph’s Secondhand Store, I knew I had to have it.

Excerpt: When there’s no sound other than the crunch of snow under your feet, you begin to wonder if there’s anything remaining outside your sight as well. Ethan has been alive for thirty-six years, and for twenty-nine years, that thought has grown along with him. On this forest path, no one has ever walked in pairs.
The Prep is a month-long, community-oriented challenge that takes place every October, designed to help you plan a novel prior to writing it. You don't even have to have a novel idea to participate! Your first assignment, on Oct. 1st, is to come up with an idea, and we provide you with brainstorming tools, plot generators, and a whole community of other novelists to help you along.
Show, don't tell! How many times have you heard that? We all know it's one of the toughest things to do. Some editors and agents will decide whether or not to read your submission based only on how well your first sentence does this. Our contest is all about showcasing and practicing this important skill.
