You made a decision. You joined the writing community called Writing.Com. Perhaps a friend told you about this site; perhaps you found it by accident. You created a Username and a Password, and now have a Portfolio on Writing.Com.
Looking at your Port, what are you feeling--elation, trepidation, confusion, all of the above? What should you do now?
Immediately after activating your membership with Writing.Com (WDC), your screen opened to "Welcome to Writing.Com!" . This item lists a number of things you can do to personalize your account and Portfolio. In case you weren't sure how to find that item again, I've included the link. I suggest you make the item a Favorite by clicking on the Plus icon (+) at the top right of that item. For the first couple years after I joined, I used this link regularly to fine-tune my Port.
The first main heading is JUMP START YOUR ACCOUNT, which includes links allowing you to do such things as Set Up Your BioBlock and Biography, Create Your First Item, Choose Your Preferences, and the like.
I encourage you to carefully consider the type of information you wish to include. As a minimum, provide enough information to introduce and describe yourself to the membership. Interaction with other members is an importance and essential part of your desire to improve your writing efforts. Improving your writing is why you joined, right? Remember, anything you add here now can be easily edited at any time.
The second major heading is LEARN MORE ABOUT WRITING.COM. This section contains several informational links designed to explain the actual workings of the site. Explore these at your leisure. I suggest checking out one new aspect each time you log on. Writing.Com is a complex site full of features to enhance your writing journey. Learning about these features one small bite at a time will be very rewarding.
I will explore more tips about managing your Portfolio in future newsletter issues. In the meantime, good lusk with all your writing endeavors.
Write on!

Thanks for spending time with me today. If you liked what you read (or if you didn't), please take time and drop me a line. I'd love to hear your ideas.
From the newsfeed and mailbag:
From Chibithulu (Alyssa) : I assume these are written by non-moderator members?
Some were written by non-moderators ((Preferred and even Registered authors), and some were written by current Preferred Authors who were Moderators at the time. But all these unofficial newsletters were written by members with a true passion for that particular subject.
From JMariah : Yes, I read about them in a newsletter.
How appropriate.
From Anna Marie Carlson : No, I wasn't aware of them.
From JMariah : Hi Jace, Thank you for putting the link to my prose "Proud to be a Dandelion" in the Newsletter. I appreciate that. I read some reviews of the book "Dear Writer, You Need to Quit". I was intrigued and bought the Kindle edition. I am looking forward to reading through it. Joan
My pleasure.
From hbk16: You have mentioned here some featured applications that personally I am not familiar with. Great share! Thank you!
I'm glad to have been of service.
