Letter from the editor

I never thought that toilet paper or lack there of could create a whole mystery for the entire country, if not the world. Yet here we are! Out of toilet paper, wipes of any kind, paper towels, and even napkins. It’s a mystery to me.

I do my regular shopping once or twice a month, avoiding the Monday/Friday crowds as well as the after work and weekend crowds. It has nothing to do with being antisocial. It’s more about getting things done faster rather than being in a constant traffic jam while walking through store isles. I hate wasting time, don’t you? I also use online pickup because of its convenience.

I was aware of the fact that stores are busy and people are shopping left and right but I also used to work for the particular store I shop at and know their storage limits. What I didn’t account for is the masses buying everything as if it were free. Even the limit restrictions on certain items I understood. Yet there I was, clicking on the app just to look half hour later to see that more than half my items were out of stock. Most important things I needed were toilet paper and water. Out. Or, you can buy one case and not more. Fine by me. In the end I ended up with neither and decided to walk inside to see what I can use as replacement.

For those who grew up in a war torn country, the empty shelves in a store are normal. The fear rising as things aren’t replenished, normal. Food is what goes first. Common sense. Baby food? Diapers? Better get them while supplies last. Bottled water is a luxury not a necessity although I fear that people have forgotten that. The only thing I didn’t and can’t understand is the lack of toilet paper! What in the world are you going to do with it when you run out of food?

So here I am stuck with paper towels and napkins instead. It’s all good. But it remains a mystery. You can go on eBay or Wish *Ha* and order it for an outrageous price.

I stocked up on items for my child since she can’t eat regular food just yet but I fear this world we live in. A virus can be contained if proper precautions are taken, but common sense seems to be hard to come by these days. The future of our world is in shaky hands. People worry about what to tech their kids now that they’re supposed to stay at home. Common sense for starters. Survival skills next. If we don’t know what is important we cannot survive.

Stay at home, teach your kids the basics of life and responsibility, educate yourself as well as them if need be, and if you get a chance, solve this toilet paper mystery for me, will you?

‘Til next time!
